Nicola Toki was the face of the Department of Conservation’s Wildlife Advocate and held other technical roles within DOC for a long time before becoming the CEO of Forest & Bird in 2022. She is a well-known conservation public figure having featured on documentaries such as the recently broadcasted “Endangered Species Aotearoa” supported by the World Wildlife Fund.

Ellen is an award-winning science writer with an impressive portfolio of published science articles with the likes of New Zealand Geographic, Australian Geographic, National Geographic, The Spinoff, Radio New Zealand and Forest & Bird.

In this episode, we revisit the Te Ara Taiao programme and highlight how the Māori Environment Education programme is supporting schools, teachers and tamariki in incorporating indigenous knowledge confidently in the classroom.
