Author Heather Greene joins Talking Strange to discuss her book "Lights, Camera, Witchcraft: A Critical History of Witches in American Film & Television," as well as the Satanic Panic (and its modern iteration). In the book, Greene traces the figure of the witch from 1896 through 2020, and is an analysis of the entertainment industry’s shifting boundaries concerning expressions of femininity. It focuses on films and television series from Bewitched to The Craft, and looks at how the witch reflects changing gender roles, religion, the modern practice of witchcraft, and female agency.
