In this week’s episode TallGuy & BigHead talk about MLS Cup Final in Toronto between TorontoFC vs Seattle Sounders on Dec. 09. They make a bet with each other about the pitch. TallGuy says that the Argos and TFC play on the same surface and BigHead says that they roll out a different field when the Argos play. TallGuy laughs at BigHead’s suggestion that they roll out a different field, as there is no place to roll out another field to. An argument ensues, that leads to a bet amongst both hosts. They discuss Cristiano Ronaldo’s 5th Ballon d’Or. They also ask each other questions to test their knowledge and even play truth or dare amongst other things. It is a Twilight episode worth listening to.

This week TallGuy & BigHead’s show was moved to the basement studio, where they discuss all things sports, including the World Cup ’18 group stage draw that will be taking place in Russia. They discussed the two teams that they think will advance from the group stages. They also talked about the Federal Court of Appeals decision to uphold an April 2016 decision that ordered the Toronto Real Estate Board (TREB) to allow its members to share the sales histories of listed properties online. Although BigHead seems disinterested with the topic towards the end of the episode, which ensues to TallGuy ending the episode.

The show starts with TallGuy telling a story about a raccoon’s life that he saved at the beginning of the week. The guys discuss about the asteroid named 3200 Phaethon skimming earth, that is approximately 11 light years away or 3.2 million kms, which is relatively close in space terms . It will be visible on Dec. 17. Also they talk about Charles Manson’s death (finally) and how he manipulated and had influence and control over the others that followed him, to commit the heinous crimes in the summer of 1969. They talked about the tiger that was shot in Paris, France. As well about people who kill animals for sports and how TallGuy & BigHead are fully against the killing of animals for sport or entertainment reasons. Bighead talks about how they should fight the animals like Jebediah Springfield did. Really? Jebediah Springfield?. What a reference. It’s an episode worth listening too!

In the episode TallGuy & BigHead talk about the crown’s decision to drop the manslaughter charge against Anthony Kiss, who used his vehicle while impaired to run over Dario Romero, whom at the time was chasing Alicia Aquino with a knife on Black Creek Dr and Eglinton Ave W.  Which leads them to discuss about Machiavellianism and doing the wrong thing for the right reasons. They also talk about how the city lacks in EV(Electric Vehicle) charging stations, but in turn the city has rolled out a pilot project in regards to EV charging stations in 3 Wards of the city. * New moms and dads will have the option to take an extra six months off work to be with their newborns. The current system allows the parents to take 12 months paternity leave with 55% weekly salary, capped at $543 per week. The changes will give parents 18 months with 33% salary , capped at $326. It takes effect on Dec.03.

In this week’s podcast TallGuy starts recording prematurely and you get a snippet of behind the scenes, you even hear the mysterious producer’s voice. TallGuy’s dog Mya makes her second appearance on the show. TallGuy & BigHead just couldn’t stay away from technology, considering its been a lot in the news lately. One being with how self-checkouts and checkout free stores will impact salespeople and cashiers in the next 10 to 20 years. BigHead admits he used self-checkout the past week and he liked it. He also tells a story about how he went to the bank and had to wait in line 30mins, to which TallGuy mentioned that he sounded stressed about it and he should of just done it online, like he does. They also talk about Sophia the AI robot that was introduced at FIIKSA17 in Saudi Arabia and was granted citizenship, which BigHead has cause for concern and TallGuy is in favor of robots but not granting citizenship considering Saudi Arabia’s track record with women and human rights. The last topic they discuss about and agree upon together, which doesn’t happen often is, the Cosmopolitan article that tells parents not to dress their kids as Moana for this halloween. They tear into Cosmo for publishing the article with no mercy. Listen as this is the most intense episode TallGuy & BigHead have ever had to date as tempers flare.

* Walmart has equipped 22 stores with self-scanners across Canada. Shoppers at those stores only need to stop by a self-checkout kiosk or visit a cashier to pay their bill. Eventually it will use a smartphone app instead of the scanners. Amazon has a checkout-free grocery store in Seattle, it uses computer vision with cameras installed all over the store, deep learning algorithms, and sensor fusion. You need to have the Amazon Go App. Canada’s labour force will be affected by the automation with up to 42% of Canadians at risk of losing their jobs in the next 10 to 20 years. That includes 656,000 salespeople and 309,000 cashier jobs.

* This years FIIKSA17 in Saudi Arabia introduced an AI robot named Sophia, which has been designed around human values like wisdom, kindness, compassion, and empathy. She blinks, talks, and reacts just like a human. In an interview in Australia it responded to a question by saying that it, “deserves same equal rights or even more than humans”. She even took a dig at Elon Musk in another interview. Take it easy Sophia. She was also grant Citizenship by Saudi Arabia, the first humanoid ever to have such grant. Sophia was developed by Hong Kong based company Hanson Robotics. David Hanson is an American roboticist and entrepreneur.

TallGuy & BigHead start the episode with a moment of silence for Canadian Legend and Icon Gord Downie and frontman for The Tragically Hip, who passed away at the age of 53 from a brain tumour. In the episode the guys discuss the announcement of Google’s parent company Alphabet’s Sidewalk Labs development of the Smart City project in the Portlands area of the City of Toronto. The Quayside as its currently named. They also talk about James Dyson the creator of the first bagless vacuum that uses cyclonic action and how hes plans to create an electric vehicle that will compete against Tesla and its creator Elon Musk. TallGuy embraces technology while he believes that BigHead is afraid to accept and embrace the direction of the future relying heavily on technology. BigHead says he’s not afraid, TallGuy is skeptical of him. An example of this is that BigHead doesn’t like that he cant stand in line at the bank in the near future, while TallGuy rather do online banking and save his time spent on other things than waiting in line to do his banking. You will just have to listen to the episode to decide for yourself.

* Gord Downie the frontman for The Tragically Hip, passed away on October 17,2017 of a brain tumour called glioblastoma at the age of 53. Tributes and rememberances occurred all across Canada. RIP Gord Downie.

* A unit of Google’s parent company, has signed a new deal to develop a new neighbourhood on Toronto’s waterfront that will be data-driven technology and how it will improve the quality of city life. Sidewalk Labs and the government agency Waterfront Toronto announce a partnership in which Sidewalk will initially invest $50 million(U.S.) in a year long planning process for Quayside, a 12 acre district by the waterfront. It will include 3.3 million square feet of residential, office and commercial space, including a new headquarters for Google Canada. It will have new innovation in architecture, construction and urban design. Private cars will be banned, autonomous cars will serve the area and freight robots will be working underground. Buildings will be constructed using modular units that will be built near by. There will be issues with existing zoning and building codes, which will surely be amended or not. Intelligent signals will manage traffic on pedestrian streets. It will also include a variety of sensors to collect useful data about its urban environment. Hyperlocal weather sensors, air-quality sensors, noise sensors and cameras associated with AI that can track the flow of traffic and pedestrian flow. Although there might be privacy issue concerns with all the data gathering. Its first public meeting will take place on Nov.1, 2017.

* James Dyson the creator of the bagless vacuum with cyclonic action has said he will develop his own company of electric cars that will launch by 2020. He will use his company’s expertise in solid-state battery technology and electric motors that are found in his innovative vacuums and other products such as, bladeless fans and air purifiers to develop his car company. He’s backing solid-state batteries rather than lithium-ion because it is safer. Dyson will be in direct competition with Tesla and its creator Elon Musk which might actually be good for electric cars and its future.

The guys this week discuss issues closer to home that affect their city, Toronto. They give their opinion on the ongoing issues the TTC is facing with Bombardier not being able to deliver the new streetcars on time. On this episode they also talk about the rental market in The6ix, with monthly rent at ridiculous heights and lack of rental units. As well they express how they feel about Hollywood and its dirty secrets that has been going on for years, with Weinstein scandal coming to light after over 2 decades of sexual advances and harassment.

* Bombardier will miss its revised target of delivering 70 and instead will only deliver 65. By now, the TTC says, it was supposed to have 146 new streetcars in service. It has 45. Bombardier insists it will be able to deliver all 204 streetcars by the end of 2019, one year later than the mark of 2018 contractual obligations.

* In the rental market the average price for a one bedroom apartment is currently at around $2000. With 90,000 people moving each year into the city, the current vacancy is at about 1.4%. Housing advocates have stated that anything below 3% is unhealthy. The report by Ryerson City Building Institute and Evergreen has indicated that the city would need to build 8,000 new rental units per year to maintain a healthy vacancy rate.

* Harvey Weinstein co-founder of Miramax, which was sold to Disney in 1993, but he and his brother operated it until 2005 when they departed to create The Weinstein Company. He is now accused of assault and harassment women dating back to the mid 80’s. Over 50 women have now come forward and alleged that he harassed or assaulted them, with 8 known settlements to women that claimed of inappropriate behaviour by the now disgraced producer. Since the accusations he has been fired from TWC. His wife of 10 years Georgina Chapman has left him. He was also kicked out of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science on Oct.14, 2017.

In this week’s episode BigHead flips his lid and goes on a rant and tirade and throws shade at certain subjects about issues that bother him. They discuss birth control in the U.S., the senseless violence that occurred at Vegas. They also talk about gun registry and gun control and the ban of the device “bump stock”. As well as other topics including sports.

* Birth Control- Employers can opt out from of covering contraception. Under the new rule employers can exempt themselves from providing coverage for it for “religious or moral” reasons.

* The shooting in Las Vegas killed 58 people and wounding nearly 500 when the suspect fired upon concert goers from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel. He had 23 guns in his hotel and 24 in his homes. At least 12 of those guns were outfitted with “bump stock” devices, which allowed the semi-automatic weapons to fire as automatic ones. Authorities believe 33 of the 47 guns, most of them rifles were purchased between October 2016 and last month, according to ATF.
