Tapes from the Darkside

Is there anything we've overlooked so far that could have motivated Chandler to commit this crime?

Hope you all have a safe and happy Thanksgiving. :)

On the night of Saturday, July 2, Cathryn Mellender arrived at the Halderson family home for a sleepover with her boyfriend, Chandler.

Unbeknownst to Cat, she'd be sleeping just feet away from the dismembered bodies of Bart and Krista...hidden beneath her in a cooler on ice.

Meanwhile, Chandler frantically tried to devise a plan to dispose of their remains.

...we therefore commit this body to the ground, earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

Ashes to ashes, funk to funky, we know Major Tom's a junkie. Strung out in heaven's high and hitting an all-time low.

This is a FULL episode of our new monthly series. Created by the team at TAPES FROM THE DARKSIDE. The lead writer is Josh Lami from Obscura. Minor additions by TZ. Each episode is a self-contained one-off true crime story. All episodes are now streaming on Patreon — new episode posted each month.

In 2018, Jacqueline Ades went on a single date with a man she met on an online dating app. Over the next 10 months, she sent him over 159,000 text messages. Among these many colorful messages she included ones that described how she desired to make "sushi" out of his kidneys and "chopsticks" out of his finger bones.

Date: July 1, 2021
Location: The Halderson's basement

Bart and Krista's lifeless bodies are sprawled across the cold cement floor. Various blood soaked tools are strewn about the room. Hedge clippers, scissors, a keyhole saw, a hacksaw, and an axe.

The air is thick with death and desperation.

Chandler is bent over his father's half naked body, hacksaw in hand, as he begins the slow and methodical process of sawing through both of Bart's femurs.

The ridges of the blade begin their incision into the bone, then halt abruptly, leaving a clue. One that would tell investigators exactly what tools Chandler used that night. The very same tools that police would later find inside a rusty oil barrel on Crescent L'sai's farm.

This is Chapter 10: False Start.
