Dr. Kirk Honda is one of the hosts of the phenomenal podcast, Psychology in Seattle. Today he joins us to help break down the Lacey Fletcher case.

Dr. Honda has a Doctorate in Psychology, a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy, and has been working as a psychotherapist since 1996 and a professor since 1998. His podcast started in 2014 and he takes on a variety of topics. From serious discussions about depression, anxiety, and personality disorders…to analyzing reality shows and YouTube apologies.

Please go check out his show. One episode I think Tapes from the Darkside listeners would enjoy is the breakdown of Ted Bundy. Listen here and please consider subscribing:

This is a preview for the second bonus episode from S5: The Execution of Daniel Shaver. In this episode, we delve into the history of misconduct at the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office. Specifically, a one: Dr. Mark Shelly.

Dr. Shelly performed the autopsy on Daniel Shaver and even gave testimony during the trial of Mitch Brailsford. But this episode is about events that occurred much earlier. In fact, seven years earlier—when Dr. Shelly was working as a naval doctor.

On that fatal winter night in 2011, Dr. Shelly made a decision that would make national headlines, cost him his job, and forever stain his otherwise pristine reputation.

If you want to hear the full episode it will be on Patreon, ad-free, where you can also hear every episode in our back catalogue...also, ad-free, and at pristine 320 kilobytes-per-second audio quality.

I’m making an effort to put out more consistent exclusive Patreon episodes. My goal is twice a month bonus content of some kind—whether it be an interview, aftershow, or a bonus episode like this one.

The support we get helps us to continue making this brand of independent deep-dive true crime content. Every single dollar truly makes a difference. Thank you to everyone who supports us.

This episode is about Nate Gafvert who was the former president of the police union in Mesa. He tells us about going undercover as a rookie cop in a Macy’s bathroom to try and entrap gay men who were looking for anonymous sex.

I’m going to play the preview for you here. A little teaser. If you want to hear the full thing then it’ll be available right now ad-free on our Patreon.

We currently have 20 exclusive bonus episodes on Patreon with more planned for you. They range from aftershows, short side episodes like this one, personal stories from myself, and even a new show called the VHS VAULT where we watch bizarre episodes of old talk shows from the 1990s.

For about the cost of 1 coffee per month, you can get full access to our entire library of bonus content. Plus, all of our regular episodes ad-free and early release. Also, if you join for 1 year then you'll get 2 months off your subscription price.

I can’t tell you how much it means to me...every single person who joins, from the highest tier to the lowest tier, thank you. And if you're even considering joining then I'm grateful to you.
