Synopsis:

A new generation has risen in Israel and shocker of all shockers- they have abandoned the God who rescued them to pursue their own ways. They did what was right in their own eyes believing they could serve both God and "gods." However, we must choose one. Although Judges shows how far we can stray, Ruth and 1 Samuel remind us that God has never forgotten his promise.

In this episode you will hear:

- First, am I listening to the Shepherd's voice or my own? How do I know if I am? In Judges, the next generation of Israelites abandoned the ways of the Lord taught by Moses and Joshua to follow their own ways. Though we don't like to think so, we are more like them than different. So, how do we learn our Shepherd's voice?

- Second, the story of Ruth reminds us that in the chaos of Judges, God had not forgotten his promise. It's a bright spot to see God's faithfulness. Through the love story of Ruth and Boaz will come the world's greatest redemption.

- Finally, in Hannah, we are reminded that God meets our greatest needs. While God grants Hannah a baby and even a couple more after Samuel's birth, it wasn't a baby that Hannah so desperately needed, but to know that she wasn't alone in her situation. God saw her and cared for her. Don't we all need that hope?

Synopsis:

Synopsis:

In this episode, we explore three reflections from Israel’s wilderness journey. First, God asks Moses, “Is the arm of the LORD too short?” Secondly, obedience takes time to develop and often a wilderness to filter our idols. Lastly, we can't help but notice how the surrounding nations respond to God's provision over his faithfulness.

Synopsis:

If you’ve been part of the anti- sex trafficking movement in the Lehigh Valley, you’re most likely familiar with the work of Dr. Heather Evans. She is a leader in the anti-trafficking space as well as in domestic/church abuse and trauma. I invited her to talk about the importance of developing a theology of suffering and keeping hope in light of the work she does. Suffering happens to us all and we have the choice of how we'll respond to it. Even if you’re not a counselor, she shares practical how-tos from the stay at home parent to a business CEO to come alongside those who are suffering.

Synopsis:

In this episode, we trace the thread of Jesus through the pages of the Law and into the wilderness camp of Israel — discovering that the Old Testament has always been pointing to Him.

While reading in the Old Testament can feel unrelated to the New, we can use the technique to "wonder" and "notice" to help us dig deeper into the text.

This Lent, I’m learning what it really means to rest — not in the absence of grief, but in the middle of it.

My friend Kristi Szabo shares how over years of small “yeses” led her to her teaching retirement and starting a new non profit (The Next Wave Ministries) for women aging out of foster care. After listening and reading from different foster youth’s stories, she recognized the gap that foster youth face once they turn 18.
