  • Overcoming Burnout: Embracing Self-Love and Transformation with Jamie London Wollberg

    Send us Fan Mail

Imagine waking up daily feeling utterly exhausted, yet pretending everything is fine. That's a reality many of us, especially educators, face with burnout. Together with burnout expert and spiritual guide, Jamie London Wollberg, we explore the roots of burnout and discuss powerful tools like the self-love audit and Healing Beyond Burnout webinar that can lead to genuine transformation.

Burnout isn't exclusive to teachers; it's a silent epidemic affecting nurses, IT professionals, first responders, and more. Jamie shares a compelling narrative of a "tri-awakening" experience, where burnout impacted not just physical health but identity and spirituality amid the pandemic's pressures. We shine a light on the symptoms many of us dismiss, like persistent exhaustion and emotional disconnection, and stress the importance of transforming professional environments to prioritize human needs, especially in education.

  • Different not Less with Joel Felsenstein

    Send us Fan Mail

After navigating my own frustrations with the traditional education system, I've found a deep passion for exploring non-traditional education paths, which led to the creation of "Taught." This episode is a part of my mission to build a community that speaks out about the state of education. Joining me is Joel Felsenstein, an inspiring music educator and advocate for inclusive education, who shares his personal journey as a neurodivergent individual and his empowering work with Rockstar X. Together, we challenge the conventional system and celebrate the motto "different, not less," shedding light on how empowering neurodivergent talents can enrich the educational landscape.

Teacher burnout and government interference are just the tip of the iceberg in a system riddled with complexities. Joel opens up about his family's experiences in England's education system, painting a vivid picture of the struggles faced by educators, often hidden beneath a brave facade. We uncover the financial strains that push schools to hire less experienced teachers, and how this undermines the growth of new educators. Echoing challenges seen across the globe, particularly in the United States, we touch on the troubling education-to-prison pipeline and the pressing need for an overhaul that genuinely prepares students for life beyond the classroom.

For students, especially those who are neurodivergent, standardized education often misses the mark. We discuss the critical need for individualized education plans that honor diverse learning styles and foster creativity. By exploring flexible learning options, we aim to inspire an education system that resonates with students' passions. This episode is a rallying call for an environment where creativity thrives, and every student's unique talents are recognized and nurtured. Join us on this journey to redefine education and create a future where everyone has the opportunity to flourish.

  • Taking Back Teaching: Confronting Ageism and Celebrating Experience with Tim Part 1

    Send us Fan Mail

Ageism in education is a topic that doesn't just deserve attention; it demands it. Enter Tim, a veteran educator whose career began at the tender age of 10 and has since flourished to include founding schools in China and tackling international education challenges.  Tim’s story is not just about a career; it’s about resilience, expertise, and the often-overlooked value experienced educators bring to any institution. Our conversation takes a serious look at burnout and the overwhelming responsibilities of administrative roles, emphasizing the need for change in how experience is valued within the educational landscape.

The episode closes with perspectives that reach beyond borders, tackling misconceptions about the U.S. education system and the underestimated skill sets of educators. We discuss international comparisons, often skewed by selective testing practices, and highlight the paradox of public criticism versus high global regard for American schooling. Through it all, we advocate for recognizing educators' invaluable contributions and skills, urging for a cultural shift that honors their dedication and ability to drive meaningful change. Join us as we confront these critical issues and reflect on the potential for a more inclusive and respectful educational future.
