Hi Friends. In this episode of TBR Lowdown:

🎙 We interview Hugh Ryan, the author of our June book club pick, The Women's House of Detention: A Queer History of a Forgotten Prison.

This is such an important book— should be required reading for high school and college. We learned so much and had quite the experience reading about all of the women who have gone through the Women’s House of Detention.

Highlights:

🎙 The issue of wearing pants continues to confound us.

🎙 Fingerprinting made things worse for women in particular.

🎙 Bail was an issue then and is still an issue today.

Highlights:

🎙 This book is so much more than a mystery.

🎙 The afterword was such a vital part of understanding the author and her writing.

🎙 How can we get more of this author's works translated into English?

Highlights:

🎙 Our journey into receiving arcs.

🎙 How to not be overwhelmed by arcs.

Hi Friends. In this episode of TBR Lowdown:

We have a discussion about the book Vladimir by Julia May Jonas.

Highlights:

🎙 We open the episode by giving you a little gardening talk! Where are our fellow gardeners?

🎙 The part women play in marriage is a major topic of discussion.

🎙 Open marriage vs. unconventional marriage. What’s the difference?
