Te Mātāwai has a leadership role in restoring te reo Māori as the nurturing first language in our homes and communities.
This role also involves advising on and influencing the Crown’s efforts in protecting, promoting, and revitalising the Māori language.
Te Matatū is team within in our tari that works with Ministers of the Crown, agencies and officials to support, advise and enable them to understand how they can best give effect to the active partnership as stated in te Ture mō te Reo Māori 2016 and further defined by the Te Whare o te Reo Mauriora model that underpins both Iwi. Māori and Crown strategies.
