Timothy is being encouraged by Paul to not let anyone look down on him because of his youth. The responsibility we have from the pulpit is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, to train people up in righteousness. We are to represent ourselves as people of the faith despite our age. We are to hold the text, the written of God at a high premium in our lives. We wait for someone to exhort us, but we are to be reading the Word and letting the Word exhort us before we get to service. The Word of God tells us that trials will come in life, however, trials do not give us excuses to not grow to the degree that God requires in our lives. We should never justify coming short of the measure of growth God wants us to obtain in Him. When trials come in the life of a believer, it produces Godly results. As believers, in the midst of trials, we need to pray, "Lord, teach me how to get through them."

In 1 Timothy 4:8, Paul encourages to focus on developing Godly discipline more than spiritual discipline. This doesnt mean that you shouldnt exercise or have physical discipline, but make sure spiritual discipline outweighs the physical; heres where prayer, fellowship, and fasting comes in. If you make physical discipline a status of godliness youre deceiving yourself. Your bodily discipline doesnt prepare you for the life to cometheyre temporal, but godly discipline has eternal rewards.
