TeachPlayLearn with Jenn Zehenni Part 2 [IEP 128]

Listen Later

Amanda and Vickie welcome Jenn Zehenni, Founder of TeachPlayLearn, back to the show. Jenn was their guest in Episode 108 and is one of their trusted experts in the field of educational therapy.

Listen in to find out more about the field of educational therapy, accessibility issues, and what TeachPlayLearn has implemented for their students during this coronavirus pandemic.

TeachPlayLearn is an educational concierge service that focuses on collaboration, not competition. Jenn makes education a unique way of connecting professionals, and she nurtures a love of learning through the TeachPlayLearn, which allows play to be the connector between teaching and learning.

Show Highlights:

  • Jenn provides her personal definition of “educational therapy” and the larger definition.
  • There are a number of differences between an educational therapist and an IEP/ISP educational therapist.
  • Educational therapists respect the time and experience that public and private school teachers have with a particular child because they are with the child far more than an ET will be.
  • The role of an ET is part of a team with the benefit of being an objective eye that might be able to provide some suggestions for consideration.
  • Amanda, Vickie, and Jenn discuss the issue of accessibility during this current pandemic. Jenn explains that they have been training a lot of teachers in online sessions.
  • TeachPlayLearn has always had an online component but they’re always thinking of ways they can make it better, such as adding more digital content, like videos with live Q&A, and including more interactive student and family project-based approaches.
  • TeachPlayLearn implements certain tech tools like Kahoot! to make learning more interactive and engaging, and they are also adamant about taking movement breaks. This gives the brain a break and gets the blood circulating!
  • Jenn asks her students to provide feedback on what works, what doesn’t work, and why. She feels that listening is one of the biggest ways to solve some of the challenges of accessibility.
