For our final episode of 2022, we’re being joined by Graham Dufault, Original Friend of the Pod and General Counsel here at ACT, for a 2023 global policy lookahead. We’ll be talking through potential regulations, upcoming global policy themes, and the impact they could have on small-to-medium size businesses on a global scale. This episode, in honor of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, we’re featuring representatives from App Association member companies CAVU and Quokka. Cyber expert Nikos Kiourtis, co-head of research and development at Quokka, is providing practical strategies and resources to mitigate risk from the small business perspective, and fellow member Chris Sims, CEO of CAVU, is providing context and insights about the way SCRUM and best cyber practices go hand-in-hand. Their cyber and SCRUM tips and pointers led to an amazing fireside chat, hosted in partnership with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), where they explored the biggest threats facing small businesses, what measures should be taken to mitigate vulnerability, and how technical frameworks like SCRUM can help put people at the center of cybersecurity.

This month we’re hitting you with a legislative privacy update, just as Congress is within striking distance on passing a federal privacy law. We’re talking through what our members are hoping for when it comes to a bill and how the 4 P’s of privacy help address the needs of small business innovators in a federal bill. BUT before we get into that, we’re going to hit tech history and run though some DC headlines.

In our newest episode, we take a deep dive into the European Commission’s newly proposed Cyber Resilience Act, which introduces common cybersecurity rules for manufacturers and vendors of digital products and services. These rules are meant to protect consumers from insecure products and address market needs as our society becomes more connected. During our policy discussion, we explained more of what’s in the Cyber Resilience Act, what it means for businesses and consumers, and what the next steps in the legislative process will look like. Of course, we also cover the top tech headlines in Brussels, tech history, and our random identifiers.
