1965 – The Campbell soup company, under their Franco-American brand, introduce SpaghettiO’s pasta in a can. The ring-shaped pasta and cheese blend was an easy way (and less messy) to make the kids a meal. Simply open the can and pour into the pan!

The idea was created by Donald Goerke – known as “Daddy-O of SpaghettiO’s”. The company tested out many shapes before they decided the “O” was the least messy to serve and eat.

Jimmie Rodgers sang the famous “Uh-Oh! SpaghettiOs” at the time.

At NAB, I talked with the folks at Switcher Studio – a switching software device that loads up on your iPad, and iPhones, to create a multi-camera environment. I talk with Mark about this program, and all the updates for 2019.

New Features at Switcher Studio

They talked about video chat, a feature they started in January. With their team solution, they can put up to 4 remote cameras at one time.

With the next release, you will be able to grab items that other people could have made off-site. You simply choose the plus sign, go to cloud, and grab the content that was created.

In the Astronaut Office, it was his intellectual bent that set him apart from some of the other pilots, along with a certain hard edge.

McDonalds

1940 – The first Corporate McDonalds restaurant opened in San Bernardino, CA by Richard and Maurice McDonald. “Speedee” was the mascot back then – a hamburger-chef that was poised upon the McDonalds sign. The “Golden Arches” dawned on the sides of the restaurant.

In 1955, Ray Kroc took notice and partnered up with the brothers. They created the corporate version of McDonalds at that time. He opened the 9th store in Des Plaines, IL and eventually took the headquarters there.

The original McDonalds was demolished in 1976.

Samsung is up to their old tricks with phones that explode and Collin is up to his old ways of dying again, but this week he's doing it in Ireland where they filmed scenes from Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Google continues to prove to consumers that if you buy their hardware, you'll regret your decision. Kind of like if you bought Uber stock the morning of their IPO. Also, it seems that Disney may be turning Hulu into a grown-up version of Disney+ and a familiar face is returning to video game consoles. And while we're on the subject of video games, how about them loot boxes? Aren't they just the worst? Well, there's a U.S. Senator who seems to think so and he's taking steps to make them illegal. While at NAB, I learned about the company Kiloview, and their NDI encoder solutions for video. Their N and E solutions allow for HDMI or SDI signals into an NDI receiving device. 

The E series is wired, while the N series is portable wireless.  Each device sends up to 1080p signals, and full H.264 encoding. Both series  also has USB and SD card support. They also weigh less than 1 lb. 

N1 and N2 feature 5G WiFi, and can be connected to Ethernet via USB. Unit holds an internal battery that is charged via 12V power supply. This unit can be hot-shoe to a camera. 

The E1 and E2 (wired solutions) are NDI|HX supported. HDMI loop support allows for video monitoring.

Amazon wants its employees to quit, give them a three months severance package and $10k in cash to start a business that would have the prior employee drive for them. Quite incredible if you think about it. But I look at the math on it and wonder if someone can actually make a full-time living working for Amazon as an independent delivery person. Considering the cost of benefits for a sole business owner I really doubt it.
