Dr. Robin Blackstone is the author of a new book…Doctor AI: Reimagining Healthcare, Rebuilding Trust Delivering Health 4.0. She is a surgeon and former global medical director at Johnson and Johnson..
“Once I retired from J and J I decided that I would try to define the deficits that we had and illustrate how we could use technology to help us fill those and to really get back to the humans involved in clinical care doing the things that humans do really well, putting off a lot of the other part to AI and other technologies.”
And the technology can be used to get to the root of many health issues. More in the final part of the series.

And she is the author of a new book.. Doctor AI: Reimagining Healthcare, Rebuilding Trust, Delivering Health 4.0…
“I felt like I’d seen all these parts of the system and I was convinced that we really were not making the kind of changes that we need to make to really incorporate the new technology that’s becoming available. The people who can afford to do any kind of thing for their healthcare were getting more and more curated, specialized innovation, whereas the bulk of people either have no insurance or have very poor insurance.”
And Dr. Blackstone has looked at the misaligned incentives in delivering healthcare in America. More on that in my next report.

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. A new approach to AI. That is what Yann LeCun says is needed. He was the Chief AI Scientist at Meta for 12 years, leaving in January to help create Advanced Machine Intelligence or AMI, which he points out means friend in French. He serves as the executive chairman. LeCun says the approach being taken by all of the prevalent LLMs or large language models can’t lead to true human level intelligence. His research now is focused on World models…using Joint Embedding Predictive Architecture. In simple terms it learns the way a child learns and is able to do things….think robots for instance….without specific training. LLMs , which it seems everyone is using today, have their place. But AMI aims to create intelligent systems that understand the real world. Stay tuned.

And this past year was the best year ever for the vehicle. And so what is new in the Anniversary Edition coming this year? Brand Manager Stephanie Simon says some of the new tech is under a category Ford calls Linger Longer..
“It’s things that are going to help them enjoy the vehicle and enjoy time together. And that linger longer content is things like available 360 degree zone lighting that helps you illuminate your campsite or your tailgate. The split tailgate that has a 500 pound capacity is perfect to watch a game or gather around as you prepare for your next adventure. It has an extra long center aisle that’s made possible by our 40-20-40 folding seat.”
That roominess is what has made the Expedition popular still after all these years.

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. This is part four of our series with Dr. Adrian Woolfson, author of On the Future of Species: Authoring Life by Means of Artificial Intelligence. He is CEO of Genyro…which has the capability of creating new life forms today...
“What we really need to do is put guidelines in place and governance to try and regulate how these technologies are used. That’s not going to be easy to do and there are always going to be bad actors. And I should also say that it’s not just the deliberate misuse of the technology that we should be worried about, it’s the accidental misuse of the technology because humans tend to have a tendency to think they know more than they know.”
Which could lead to disaster. Should we be excited…or terrified? Dr. Woolfson says the answer is both.

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. This is part three of our series with Dr. Adrian Woolfson….author of On the Future of Species: Authoring Life by Means of Artificial Biological Intelligence. He is co-founder and CEO of Genyro, with the exclusive license to Sidewinder, developed at CalTech…which has already been used to create a new life form. So we wondered about the ethical issues..
“Well the ethical questions are obviously huge, right? And one of the reasons I wrote my book on The Future of Species is first of all, just as a kind of wake up call to humanity. And the only way you can have an opinion is if you understand it, right? So I see my book as a kind of guidebook if you like, the future of life and the future of humankind.”
Clearly there’s a need for regulation , but how? More in my next report.
