Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. Fraud against older adults is the lead story in the latest edition of the AARP Bulletin….and the article highlights what some of the bigger tech companies are doing about it….and one start-up as well. Silver Shield Founder Alec Glassman on the What’s Next Living Longer Better Smarter podcast said there is no app to download….once you sign up through a government agency or as an individual…in New York State it is free…the protection kicks in..

“From that point forward they can text us any questions they have. They can email us any questions they have or forward us emails that they are suspicious of. And we’ll respond and coach them through these situations, get them the help that they need. And we’ll even do things like report it to the agencies or help them share it with their communities.”

Individuals can sign up for five dollars a month. More info? Head to SilverShield.ai.

  • SEMA backs legislation to ensure vehicle safety with after market gear

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin SEMA, the Speicialty Equipment Market Association is pushing legislation in Washington to ensure that when you install after-market gear on your vehicle….a bike rack for instance….that the safety technology you have will continue to work. SEMA Director of Communications Matt Daigle tells us the push is for manufacturers to provide needed calibration information for sensors, cameras and the like..in vehicle safety systems..

“Whether it’s a LIDAR sensor or whether it’s a camera that these technologies use, just a point 2 degree misalignment can be the difference between impacting something or not impacting something or hitting, these sensors working as intended.”

The hope is to have legislation enacted by the fall. Check the advocacy section at SEMA.org.

  • Status Audio Pro X advanced wireless earbuds deliver on promise

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. Status Audio calls them the most advanced wireless earbuds ever created. After first reporting on their development last summer, we’ve finally been able to check out the Pro X earbuds. They are different in design….inside and out, the slimmed down size is remarkable…and the triple balanced armature drivers deliver on the promise, living up to the Pro designation. As founder James Bertuzzi told us..

“You know we appeal to, I hate to call them audiophiles because that term has so much baggage, but we are definitely for someone who is down to do some research, expects a bit more acoustically, but someone who wants a higher performing wireless earbud and is willing to invest in it.”

249 dollars is the price we’re seeing now. Learn more at Status.co.
