    Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.  I’m Fred Fishkin.   For many parents who have been working in a home office…keeping an eye on the kids in other parts of the house can be a challenge.  A couple of the latest cameras from  EZViz  are affordable and simple to set up….and work with both Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa.  There’s the 25 dollar EZViz C1C…a 1080p HD camera with motion sensing, two way audio and night vision.  And for about 40 dollars the C6CN model adds full pan and tilt.  The company’s Hans Velasco…

    The cameras also feature micro SD card slots for local video storage.  There is optional cloud storage available as well.

  • Comcast helps customers with more voice command entertainment

    Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.  I’m Fred Fishkin.  Can a voice remote help you get through the day?  Comcast has added some new features to the  Xfinity X1 and internet streaming Flex voice remotes.  For instance, says VP of AI and Discovery Products Jeanine Heck…

    “You can say “Happy stuff” into the remote and you get back a whole bunch of things that will just make you happy.  And you can say “Pizza stuff” into the remote and you can get back a whole bunch of videos on how to make pizza or to watch movies where pizza is a central figure to the plot.  And there are just lots of other features like movie quotes so you can say things like “phone home” or “Yo, Adrienne” and you’ll get back the movie that that quote is featured in.”

    Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.  I’m Fred Fishkin.  More technology being put to work in the battle against Covid-19.  A company named Digital Aerolus has developed a commercial drone equipped with powerful UV C lights…designed to disinfect everything from hospital rooms to aircraft and offices.  Director of Product and Business Development Jameson Huckaba says while the price tag is 27 thousand dollars…the company is not look to profit from the Aertos 120 UVC Drone which uses spaceflight type mathematics to maintain stability in nearly all environments…

  • IBM offers free Coronavirus tracking tool: The Weather Company

    Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.  I’m Fred Fishkin.  IBM has been offering a free tool for tracking reported cases of Coronavirus….through its www.weather.com site and the Weather Channel apps on Android and iOS.  Sheri Bachstein is global head of the consumer business at IBM’s The Weather Company…

    “So we thought that this was a natural pivot for us to be able to provide trusted information on this particular virus.  And we’re doing that down to a county level.  We know that our customers want their weather at a very local level and so we felt like providing the virus information at a very local, county level was really important.”

    Keep in mind that the numbers are only reported cases..as is the case with other statistics available.  There is also a graph…down to the county level on the app and Web site.

  • BrainHQ app aims to help cognitive function

    Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.  I’m Fred Fishkin.  BrainHQ is the name of an app designed by Posit Science to help users improve cognitive function.  And the company says research from the University of Rochester…recently published…shows real benefits in pre dementia patients.  And while the app may be of most benefit to seniors…it can be helpful for younger users as well.  CEO Dr. Henry Mahncke…

    “Doing the exercises is a little bit like doing a certain kind of video game, one might say, but one that’s designed specifically to make your brain faster and more accurate.  So for example, one of the key exercises, actually invented a number of years ago, and what it’s designed to do is improve the speed of your divided attention.”
