Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. Innovation in outdoor and recreational gear is a favorite here and so is SylvanSport. Their latest is an RV called VIRE. The stats are about thirteen feet and three thousand pounds. The designs for sleeping, eating and the bathroom are elegant. But beyond that, founder and CEO Tom Dempsey tells us…

“Folks want the most technically sophisticated travel trailer they can find in terms of power management, electrical storage and those sort of things. We partnered with Eco Flow and we’ve got a system on board, it starts with 600 watts of solar panels on the roof. We rolled this VIRE out of the building in April and we have yet to plug it in.”

That’s how good the self sustaining technology is. Head to SylvanSport.com.

  • Can brain games predict best jobs for you?

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. Can brain games predict what types of jobs you are best suited for. A recent U.S. government funded study using members of the armed forces found that a 20 minute assessment using the BrainHQ app from Posit Science was successful in predicting performance in the Armed Forces Qualification Test. Posit Science CEO Henry Mahncke…

“These basic tests of brain health and brain performance, well they’re actually highly correlated and they can predict the AFQT. So that by knowing what your processing speed is, what your working memory capacity is, Doing that, which we can do on a computer, only takes twenty minutes, by doing just that we can actually predict most of what you get from that much longer, older test.”

I’ve been a fan of the BrainHQ app for years, meanwhile. Find it in the app store or on the Web and try it for free.

  • Avoid upselling at car dealers

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. Don’t let a car sales person sell you more of a vehicle than you need. That…perhaps oddly enough… is advice from our recent interview with Kia America corporate communications head James Bell…

“Especially, you know we’re in some curious political times now and fuel prices are a concern for so many Americans. And if you bought a vehicle that’s got that big V8 engine or lots of power because you might go climb a mountain one day and now you’ve got to that thing up on a weekly basis, if not more often, you’re spending more than you need to. And that’s one of the easy over decisions, I guess you could say, that people make.”

Of course, he’d like you to consider the hybrid Kia Seltos that can get up to 46 miles per gallon. Bell adds, however, that the future is clearly electric.
