Dr. Jay and Brad talk to another expert, Dr. Gregg Friedman, DC on documentation. Listen to how he built his companies and responded to this subject matter.
Dr. Friedman's comments:
When I was just five years old, like most little kids, I had a ‘hero.’ Not a fireman, or the President. My hero was my dad.
I’m lucky. I look to him for advice, and he is a real inspiration to me. He teaches me a lot about life and, more importantly, about my future. In fact, he shapes my destiny. But that’s not all…
You see, dad is our family doctor, too. As far back as I can remember, my entire family sees dad for all of their health problems and to ‘stay feeling good.’ And, he would entertain us with story after story of ‘miracle cases’ in his office. Dad is always so passionate about his work. And, listen to this…
One day, dad and I have a talk after he ‘adjusts’ me. He explains that he removes nerve pressure in my body, and that the human body knows how to heal itself, and because of that he doesn’t use drugs or surgery at all. And, you know what? The adjustment doesn’t hurt – it actually feels good. So, after dad and I have our talk, I know that I want to be a chiropractor like my ‘hero’, dad. And that’s how it happened!
It’s strange how life is, because now people come to see me with their health problems and concerns. Several times a day patients thank me for helping them with their health problems. But I can’t really take the credit. My confession is that I’ve never healed anyone of anything. What I do is perform a specific spinal adjustment to remove nerve pressure, and the body responds by healing itself. We get tremendous results. It’s as simple as that!
While growing up in Scottsdale for most of my life, I attended Chaparral High School and graduated from Arizona State University. While at A.S.U., I completed the pre-med requirements while getting a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. I attended Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (now called Southern California University of Health Sciences) and graduated in 1986. I quickly moved back to Arizona and began practicing in Scottsdale. In 2006, I moved our office to the Arcadia area, closer to home.
I like to explain all the options to patients and serve them where they want to be served. Although many of my patients have been coming in regularly for years, I also enjoy seeing the look on a skeptical patient's face when we get them feeling better faster than they ever imagined."
Recent articles about Vertebral Artery Dissection in the national press have raised the controversy and called upon expert responses from the chiropractic profession. In this episode of TechTalk, Dr. Jay Greenstein and Brad Cost interview Dr. William Lauretti, DC about the subject matter to help the profession understand the issue, learn to look for symptoms, and how to answer patient questions.
Studies appearing in the New England Journal of Medicine offer the first clue that these attacks upon cervical manipulation have been largely misdirected, as the annual rates of spontaneous vertebral artery dissection (VAD) have been estimated to occur between 2.5 and 3 times per 100,000 patients, as much as 30 times greater than dissection rates attributed to chiropractic manipulation.7,8

Dr. Jay and Brad continue their series on National Leaders with guest, Dr. Brock Martin, DC. Dr Martin is running for State Representative in Tennessee. Dr. Martin has had many leadership roles in his professional life and is not extending it to a different level. The guys ask him why he is running for this political office. Listen to this interview and understand how great leaders follow their natural drive to lead.
My reasons are simple, I am running to create a prosperous future for my family, my business, and my community. I will be a voice for small business owners, who are the heartbeat of our rural counties. I know that when government intervention is limited, it allows for businesses to thrive. My wife and I have a young son, who reminds me every day that my actions today impact his future.
I have spent my life in West Tennessee and know the values we all share. Values that I will bring with me to the Tennessee Capitol. Our state has become a beacon of inspiration for the rest of the country because of these conservative values we hold in West Tennessee.
Dr. Jay and Brad welcome back a very special friend, Dr. Ray Foxworth as part of their effort to honor and thank the leadership of the Chiropractic profession. Dr. Foxworth is truly one of those timeless leaders that reaches back into his childhood for the inspiration and values given to him from his chiropractic mother.
Ray is the President of ChiroHealthUSA and is a certified Medical Compliance Specialist. He has served for over 20 years on the Medicare Carrier Advisory Committee and served 4 years as Staff Chiropractor for the G.V. Sonny Montgomery VA Medical Center. He is past president of ConservaCareCorp, a network selected by the State of Mississippi to serve over 195K State employees and teachers. It is his experience as a network founder and president and insurance liaison for many years that lead to the concept and formation of ChiroHealthUSA. He maintains his practice on NewSouth Professional Campus, which is home to a large multidisciplinary spine center offering services ranging from chiropractic to neurosurgery. He is “in the trenches” on a daily basis facing the same challenges with billing, coding and compliance issues just like many of you.
In this episode, Dr. Jay and Brad talk with their good friend, Dr. Don Reno which is consider a national Leader in Chiropratic.
Dr. Reno enrolled in Chiropractic college after becoming healthier through his own chiropractor’s directives, which made him feel comfortable by giving him choices in his care. "I knew that I wanted to help people in a similar fashion". Don figured that he couldn’t be the only person that had an immune system improvement through chiropractic care so he enrolled in school to help others in this manner.
Dr. Reno attended Life University in Marietta, Georgia and found that the education process was a great challenge and an experience that is very special to him. The classes in anatomy and physiology were challenging and they gave him an understanding of how our bodies work. Dr. Ron Kirk was especially inspiring to Dr. Reno because he related his practical experiences to us and combined them with the sciences for a great teaching environment.
Dr. Reno is married to my wife Susan since June 1988. He and his wife's leisure time is often spent with our friends and enjoy outdoor activities that include boating and hiking and cooking, especially in a healthy manner. Good food does not have to be a detriment to our health. Dr. Reno enjoys reading, politics, history and is currently serving as Chairman of the Board for the Michigan Association of Chiropractors (MAC).

For nearly 20 years I was a typical hard working health professional – much like you - arriving at my clinics early in the morning – treating clients all day – struggling to also find the time to fix staff issues and other business problems - only to finally arrive home in the dark – totally exhausted – spend a few minutes with the kids ( if I was lucky) – have a quick bite to eat – then get on the computer to catch up on the practice management items I did not have time to do during the day - then get up the next day and do it all again.
I was living the nightmare of many good intentioned health professionals – who went to university with dreams of helping lots of people live better and more enjoyable (and pain free ) lives – only to finally open their own practice – and discover that the real world of health business ownership was a combination of long days, staff dramas, over reliance on you to do everything and no time for family and friends.
Fortunately – I was able to get myself out of this nightmare – before it was too late – I started cutting back my consulting hours – to spend more time on the important areas of health business management, staff training, system development, marketing, recruitment – and all the other essential areas of business management I have been neglecting for many years.
The results were amazing – I was able to systematize my clinics- even expand to the point where I had 6 clinics, was seeing no clients, visited these clinics for only an hour or so each week or 2 – and did not even live in the same city as 5 of them.
By this time – other health business owners were asking me how I was able to run the businesses remotely and have such a great quality of live – so I started running seminars and producing programs, DVDs and packages where I shared my hard earned business knowledge and experience with fellow health business owners from such professions as Physiotherapy, Chiropractic, Podiatry, Osteopathy, Massage Therapy –even Dentist, Orthopaedic Surgeons and Optometrists.
