    This episode features Howard Blumenthal, who among other things created and produced the famous PBS children’s show, “Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego.” Blumenthal, who is currently a Senior Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania, discusses his work at QUBE, the legendary interactive TV service launched in Columbus, Ohio by Warner Cable in 1977, as well as his work on “Carmen Sandiego,” on MTV’s “Remote Control” and on other seminal shows. He also tells us about his father, Norm Blumenthal, who produced the famous NBC game show, “Concentration,” and was involved in the 1950’s proto-interactive TV show, “Winky Dink and You.” And he shares his thoughts on how to create and produce programming that’s relevant and valuable to 21st century children.

    Our Friday Fireside guest this week is Clint Stinchcomb, President and CEO of CuriositySteam, “the premium destination for true, pure factual entertainment.” Clint clears up the mystery of the recent SPAC (Special Purpose Acquisition Corporation) investment in CuriosityStream with an enterprise value of $312 million (and an equity value of $512 million). CuriosityStream was, of course, founded by John Hendricks (founder of Discovery, Inc.), who in Clint’s words “has always been a guy who can see around corners” in the media and entertainment space. Doctor's note: I was one of more than a few people who wondered what in the world Clint was doing joining CuriosityStream five years ago. Kalehoff discusses new research from Realeyes into the efficacy of video advertising for the 2020 presidential election. Among other things, the company has found that the Biden campaign’s ads are more effective at “luring and sustaining” audiences, but that both that campaign’s ads and those of the Trump campaign are struggling to engage audiences; that negative advertising and longer ad durations are causing viewers to tune out earlier; and that political advertising in general needs to “balance rigid talking points with richer storytelling, in order to drive greater emotional impact.”
