Today Mike and Guest co-host Matt are talking with Travis Zappia from The Young Retiree By 33. He is here to discuss short term rental properties and his goal of retiring by age 33.

Travis, TheYoungRetireeBy33, is a FIRE advocate who has started to get into real estate investing in the last 3 years. He purchased his first house hack in 2016 and decided to rent out by the bedroom on Airbnb.He has since purchased four additional properties he focuses solely on short term rentals for.

In 2020, even with the pandemic, he grossed $111k in short term rental income through Airbnb. In 2021, he grossed $388k and ended up netting $110k. With his Industrial Engineering background, he has developed a set of systems to help him manage 5 short term rental units all from his phone. He even wrote a guide outlining exactly how he is able to manage his 6 short term rentals all while he has a full time job.

Stephanie Guyotte is the Associate Director of the UMass Lowell Innovation Hub Haverhill, a business incubator and coworking space driving startup innovation and entrepreneurship in Greater Haverhill.

Prior to joining UMass Lowell, Stephanie spent 15 years in communications, public relations and community education. She spent five years with Middlesex District Attorney’s Office in several roles including Director of Communications, where she managed all communications, media and was the spokesperson for the office, which is largest DA’s office in the Commonwealth.

Stephanie also worked at a Boston-based public relations firm and started her career as a reporter at local and regional newspapers.

Active within the community, Stephanie is currently the vice president of the Board of Directors of HC Media, a founding member of Haverhill.biz, and on the board of the Haverhill Partnership Loan Fund, which provides low-interest loans to Haverhill businesses and entrepreneurs. She lives in Methuen with her husband and two sons, ages 6 and 8. Stephanie enjoys running and completed her second half marathon this fall. She is an active volunteer with the Merrimack Valley Striders running club and on the organizing committee for the Feaster Five Thanksgiving Day Road Race.
