 “Japan's Largest Event! On-Site Report from Ueno no Mori Parent-Child Book Festa 2026!”

This year, 2026, marks the 24th anniversary of Japan’s largest book festival for parents and children, the “Ueno no Mori Parent-Child Book Festa 2026.” I, Yuko Fujiki, went to this popular event, which is held over two days every May at Ueno Onshi Park!! In addition to scenes from the various tents, I’ll be sharing an interview with picture book author Morikumado, who came for a book signing, interviews with visitors, and, at the end of the program, interviews with special guests—children’s literature authors Junko Kudo and Miku Ito!! Also, Junko Kudo and Miku Ito shared exclusive information about their upcoming new releases with all of you listening to this program!! This is a must-listen episode for anyone who loves picture books and children’s literature!! Please be sure to tune in!!

It’s been 20 years since I first moved to the U.S. Even today, there are many Americans who love Japan and want to learn Japanese. So, in this episode, I’d like to shine a spotlight on Americans studying Japanese in the U.S. and share two heartwarming stories that made me happy!! この春、ぜひおすすめしたい新しい絵本をご紹介します!! 児童文学作家　佐々木ひとみさんの初の絵本『なのはないろのわたしのえ』（作：佐々木ひとみ　絵：よしむらめぐ　世界文化社刊）です。物語は、学校のオープンキャンパスで母親と一緒に見た菜の花畑を描いた主人公のくるみが、クラスメイトに絵をからかわれ落ち込んでいるところから始まります。そんな時、養蜂家の老人が彼女の前に現れます。番組では、仙台市青葉区の「ライフスタイル・コンシェルジュ」で2月3日から2月28日まで開催された絵本『なのはないろのわたしのえ』展から、佐々木ひとみさんと仙台市SCSミュージカル研究所の佐藤いろはさん（7）による朗読の一部をお届けします!! ぜひお聴きください。

We're introducing a new picture book we highly recommend this spring!! It’s the first picture book by children’s literature author Hitomi Sasaki: “Nanohana iro no watashi no e” (written by Hitomi Sasaki, illustrated by Megu Yoshimura; Sekai Bunka Sha). The story begins with the main character, Kurumi, feeling down after her classmates tease her about a painting she made of a field of rapeseed flowers she saw with her mother during the school’s open house. Just then, an elderly beekeeper appears before her. On the program, we’ll also feature an excerpt from a reading performed by author Hitomi Sasaki and Iroha Sato (age 7) of the Sendai City SCS Musical Institute, taken from the picture book “Nanohana iro no watashi no e” exhibition held from February 3 to February 28 at “Lifestyle Concierge” in Aoba Ward, Sendai City!! Daylight saving time has begun, and American schools will soon be on spring break. When my daughter first started elementary school, we visited Walt Disney World Resort in Florida during spring break. Honestly, I have more challenging memories than happy ones. I'll mainly share two incidents from that trip: the food poisoning on the first day and my child getting lost!!

春になると思い出すのが日本の桜。でもアメリカにも桜を鑑賞できる名所があるんです！アメリカ合衆国首都ワシントンDCの「全米桜まつり」そして全米最大規模といわれる桜の種類と本数があり、今年で50周年を迎えるニュージャージー州ブランチブルックパークの「桜まつり」。毎年行われるこの二つの「桜まつり」に行った時の思い出をお話します。また、番組後半にはブランチブルックパークの「桜まつり」メイン会場で行われたニューヨークを中心に精力的に活動している太鼓パフォーマンスグループ「僧太鼓」の迫力ある演奏をお聞かせします！！

When spring arrives, I always think of Japan's cherry blossoms. In the US, however, we have famous spots for cherry blossom viewing. I'll share memories from visiting these two annual festivals: the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C., and the Cherry Blossom Festival at Branch Brook Park in New Jersey, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, which is the largest and most varied collection of Japanese flowering cherry blossom trees in the United States! Later in the program, I'll also bring you the powerful performance of the taiko drumming group “Sō Daiko,” based in New York and active throughout the region, which took place at the main stage of the Cherry Blossom Festival at Branch Brook Park!!

The East Coast of the United States is experiencing a extreme cold weather.

With more days spent indoors, people tend to get less exercise. And when you don't get enough exercise, your lower back starts to ache!
