Vansh and Owen welcome Xavier Livermon as this episode’s guest, a professor in Feminist Studies, Critical Race, and Ethnic Studies, the author of the book Kwaito Bodies, and a knowledgeable tennis fan. Xavier takes us through his journey as a tennis fan, then we talk about Indian Wells, the state of American tennis, and the races to the year-end finals. This was a great chat in which Xavier contributed plenty of interesting thoughts!

The team gets back together to discuss Vansh’s experience covering San Diego in person, and contrasts this with Owen’s time in Newport! They discuss everything from what press conferences were like to how watching live and in person differs from a TV broadcast. Then a short Indian Wells preview!

Steve Flink, esteemed tennis historian and Hall of Famer, sat down with Vansh to unpack what he believes is one of the best majors he's ever covered in the Open Era. There was analysis on Djokovic's quest for the Grand Slam, and what ultimately lead to his straight set defeat in the final? Was it more physical or mental? How did Medvedev execute his tactics so brilliantly and where does he go from here? The discussion then moves to the the miraculous all teenage final and the mesmerizing runs from both Fernandez and Raducanu. Vansh and Steve speculate about the future of the women's game. Lots of great insight as always and thanks to Steve for his time.

Andre and Owen are joined by Juan José Vallejo to talk about some of the most notable parts of the wild U.S. Open — Raducanu’s dominance, the fight of Fernandez, Djokovic’s near miss at the Calendar Slam, and much more. Then a discussion on the format of the tour, why we think women should have the opportunity to play best-of-five at the majors, and a couple possible solutions to current problems with the tour. Juan José wrote two fantastic pieces on Djokovic during the tournament (one on his history at the US Open, one on the ten-year anniversary of his match-point-saving win over Federer in 2011), which you can read here: https://link.medium.com/1WmzK80KDjb https://link.medium.com/x4JxfgZKDjb

Andre and Vansh sit down right after recording their ATP US Open draw preview to record the WTA draw preview episode. This was a far more difficult one, with a great number of players who could potentially go far in the tournament - even if some have not enjoyed their best results in the past couple of tournaments. The likes of Maria Sakkari, Paula Badosa, Marketa Vondrousova
