Congressman John Yarmuth called in to talk about how to avoid a government shutdown at the end of the month, signs of a “blue wave” surging toward the midterm elections, a possible Presidential visit to the Commonwealth, and the beginning of the Kavanaugh hearings.

I’ve gotten through chunks of Rick Pitino’s new book. Here are my quick thoughts on what I’ve read.

Old Joe called to talk about this weekend’s games. He said something about Alabamer, some guy named Larry Miner washing UK’s jock straps, and a National Championship coming to Lexington.

College football is back and Schoolboy Sam Frey has the knowledge you need to make smart wagers. With a little help from Scott Fitzgerald, they break down all of the big college football matchups of the weekend.

PS. If you lose your money, you were the guy taking betting advice from a high school kid and a radio guy. How smart was that?

Michael Bennett of Just the Tip talks Rich Brooks, the checkerboard unis, Mark Stoops, the 2019 Cats, and why so few tickets have been sold.

AG Andy Beshear, who is also running for Governor, talks about the alleged misuse of voter data and whether is falls under the jurisdiction of AG’s office. He also had a response to Governor’s Bevin’s claim that no Democratic candidate is worthy of representing Kentucky as Governor and comments on the Governor’s pension plan, generating new revenue in the Commonwealth (gaming, etc.), fundraising for his 2019 campaign, review of state contracts, and the JCPS takeover compromise.

Old Joe said that Nick Saban and Mark Stoops are going to teach U of Smell all about SEC football this season! He also had a few thoughts on snapping the streak against Florider, selling more tickets at Commonwealth, and Slick Rick’s new book.

Congressional candidate Hank Linderman came by to talk about some of his ideas for Kentucky. Tackling corruption, the drug problem in the Commonwealth, de-criminalizing drugs, building communities in schools, bullying, and more were discussed.

John Asher flourished at the news microphone, working among terrific WHAS talent. I teased him when he left for Churchill Downs. "Youuuuuullllll be back!" He smiled and said "It's an opportunity I can't resist."

He was right.

I will miss his hearty laugh, humble smile, and his passion for his family. He was crazy in love with his wife Dee, their daughters, his grandchildren, and his Kentucky Derby.

Smartest guy I've ever encountered in any newsroom. RIP, "Homes." Thanks for being such a gentleman, ambassador, and shining light for all of us.

Acting EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler talked about touring Kentucky with Andy Barr, the Affordable Clean Energy (ACE) rule and possible resistance to it, coal and its future in the Commonwealth and beyond, single-use straws, and more.
