The Texian Navy, established in 1835, played a vital role in the Texas Revolution, successfully defending the Texas coastline and helping the Republic of Texas win its independence in 1836. In 1839, the Republic passed a bill for $280,000 for the recommissioning of six ships, which became known as the Navy of the Republic of Texas.
