Jesus traveled to His hometown of Nazareth. But the people weren't too happy with Him. They didn't believe Him. Because they didn't, He didn't perform many miracles there. Andrew and Edwin discuss the practicalities of that. If people don't believe, they won't show up for the miracle.

Usually when we talk about a mustard seed in the Bible, we are talking about our faith. However, Jesus talks about another mustard seed. This one is His kingdom. Andrew and Edwin survey the prophets to see what this parable about a seed growing into a huge tree is really all about.

Why did Jesus teach in parables? The mere fact that the disciples asked demonstrates that the common reason people think isn't actually the reason. Jesus wasn't simply trying to illustrate His teaching. Jesus wasn't trying to get down on the levels of His audience. Jesus wasn't trying to make it easy. Andrew and Edwin discuss Jesus's own response to this question. It is kind of surprising.

Matthew 12:15-32

The Pharisees have been countering Matthew's narrative about Jesus. Clearly, Matthew is telling us Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. He is performing amazing signs and doing wonderful works. The Pharisees have to come up with a reason Jesus is doing these things but at the same time a reason folks should reject Him. Their counternarrative is that Jesus is in league with the prince of demons. This isn't the first time they've leveled this charge. However, this is the first time Jesus responds. Andrew and Edwin look at Jesus's response and discuss how it stacks up to the written testimony about Him.

Matthew 12:9-14

The Pharisees and scribes wanted to test and then accuse Jesus. So, when a man with a withered hand was in the synagogue on the Sabbath, they set the trap. They asked Jesus if it was lawful or if He really had authority from God to heal people on the Sabbath. Andrew and Edwin dig into Jesus's response to learn a fantastic lesson about Bible authority, hermeneutics, and how we should use the Scripture to know what we are authorized to do as Christians and in Christ's church. While doing so, they take to task a common objection people make today to a sound Jesus-exemplified principle for establishing authority.
