Children of Time. In the Deep Space Nine episode "Children of Time," Captain Sisko and company discover a planet with a colony of 8,000 descendants of the Defiant crew, the Defiant having been marooned 200 years in the past as a result of the attempt to escape the quantum bubble surrounding the planet. Forced to choose between saving the life of Major Kira and preserving the timeline and lives of their 8,000 descendants (dashing any hope of returning home to their lives and families on Deep Space Nine), Captain Sisko must weigh the lives of 8,000 colonists and descendants, the life of Major Kira, and the individual rights of the Defiant crew members to determine their own destiny. In this episode of Meta Treks, hosts Zachary Fruhling and Mike Morrison discuss the many philosophical themes and issues in "Children of Time." From phenomenological reflection on genealogy and legacy, to the competing rights at play in this episode's principle ethical dilemma, Zachary and Mike share their perspectives on "Children of Time" and the impact of multi-generational thinking on morality and ethics in the Star Trek universe. Standard Orbit 154: By Any Other Name
What is in a name? What is in a title? Zach and Ken explore the more interesting episode titles of the original series and "try" to correlate the names to the plots of the episodes. In some cases; they're an easy match. In other cases; there isn't a direct link as to what the episode was about. In a very humbling moment for Ken--confusion on a title and actual episode becomes apparent. No editing here-Ken owns his error and makes for some good fun at his own expense.
Zach and Ken explore all the more interesting titles and ask for your input as to what some of these titles mean to you and how you have been interpreting them. Ken and Zach put out a host of theories and reveal the history of some of these lines from great literature.

The Mephisto Waltz with John Takis.
*I would like to apologize as there are some audio issues in this episode.
Released in 1971, The Mephisto Waltz was almost a response to the cult hit Rosemary's Baby. In this film, Alan Alda plays a music journalist named Myles Clarkson, whose career as a piano player came to an end when his debut concert received terrible reviews. Then, Clarkson and his wife find themselves on the path of the Macabre when an aging pianist wants to trade souls with Myles so that he can become immortal.
In this episode of Melodic Treks, host Brandon-Shea Mutala is joined by film score journalist Jon Takis to take a deep dive into Jerry Goldsmith's score to the film The Mephisto Waltz. We compare it to two of his other scores, Planet of the Apes and "The Invaders," an episode of The Twilight Zone. We talk about his techniques used for this score, including over dubbing, playing cues backwards, and the unique sound known as "The Lion's Roar," and determine that this is a strong contender for Goldsmith's creepiest score.

Former "To The Journey" co-host Tristan Ridell joins Aaron Harvey to compare and contrast Star Trek The Animated Series episode "The Time Trap" to Star Trek Voyager's "The Void".
Both stories have their respective ships getting caught in a starless void with no seeming way out, but even the animated series wasn't the first the crew of the Enterprise faced a similar predicament nor was it for the Voyager crew.
Join Aaron and Tristan as they talk comics, video games, TAS, Voyager and Lt. President Obama!
