  • 31: Education That's Out of This World

    Starship Grissom.

Star Trek has a long history of encouraging young fans to take

an interest in the sciences; but here's a fan project that takes
that to the next level. Written by teachers, these fan films not
only take viewers on Star Trek adventures, they also teach actual
classroom lessons in science, math, art, and social studies.

In this episode of Continuing Mission, host Dennis Castello is

joined by Richard Wells, Christina Morris, and Keely Sanchez of
Starship Grissom to learn how they are bringing Star Trek into
education through unique productions that make use of the TOS sets
    at Starbase Studios.

    Lin, Part 6: Fast Five.
Running Time: 59 minutes 33 seconds
After reinvigorating the franchise with Fast &
Furious, Star Trek Beyond director Justin
Lin returned to helm the fifth film in the series, Fast
Five. This installment acted as a reunion of sorts, as series
regulars Vin Diesel and Paul Walker were joined by stars of the
previous films, including Tyrese Gibson, Gal Gadot and Sung Kang
for an Ocean's Eleven-style heist movie.
In this episode of Commentary: Trek Stars, Mike and
John continue their series on Lin's work as a director by looking
at his sixth picture. We discuss how Fast
Five builds on what has come before, Lin's continued
collaboration with his crew, and what this film tells us about his
ability to handle the large cast of Star Trek Beyond.
We also discuss the trailer for Star Wars: Rogue One,
    because why not?

In 2009, Justin Lin returned to what

would become his marquee franchise with Fast &

    Someone to Watch Over Me.

When you live on a starship, you get to know your neighbors.

Sometimes you get to know them well. Especially if you’re Seven of
Nine and you’re taking an interest in interpersonal relations.
Armed with Borg implants and 24th-century Starfleet technology,
gathering data is easy. The only problem is that some of your
subjects may not want to be part of the study.

In this episode of The Ready Room, we’re joined by Charlynn

Schmiedt, Zachary Fruhling, and Phillip Gilfus to discuss “Someone
to Watch Over Me.” Join us for the Dance of Conception as the
Doctor teaches Seven how to land a date, sweep him off his feet …
and break his arm … all while mastering the art of small talk.
We also delve into the potential of a Doctor-Seven relationship,
what happens when you leave Neelix in charge of caring for
diplomats, and the exploits of Leisure Suit Kadi.

In our news segment, we discuss Star Trek: The Animated Series

coming to Blu-ray, supposed pre-production photos from the new
series, and we debate the StarTrek.com poll that asked which was
    the best Star Trek relationship.

Mega Brands, the Mattel-owned maker of the Mega Bloks construction set toys, is promising an 8-Bit invasion with their new line of figures called Kubros. Running Time: 48 minutes 22

    seconds

    After two consecutive Hollywood

blockbuster, Justin Lin returned to the world of independent
filmmaking with Finishing the Game. The film is
unlike any other in Lin's filmography, a "mockumentary" about
finding an actor to replace Bruce Lee in his final
    movie, The Game of Death.

    In this episode

of Commentary: Trek Stars, Mike and John take a look
at Lin's fourth film. We discuss how it differs from the rest of
his movies, what it says about Lin as an artist, and the impact
which Bruce Lee had on the culture. We also touch on the
upcoming Star Trek: 50 Artists, 50
