After an extra day of February, we start a new month and there's lots going on. The Winnipeg Women's Jazz Orchestra has a whole day of programming culminating in a concert for International Women's Day on March 7th and I spoke with Associate Conductor with Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra; Director of the Winnipeg Women's Jazz Orchestra, Alexis Silver about all of it. Then I talk to Lihini Muthumuni, Director of Public Relations for 5 Days for the Homeless about the upcoming events running March 11th to 16th in support of Resource Assistance for Youth (RAY).

Recent Grammy winner Allison Russell joins me on the show in advance of her March 3rd show at the Park Theatre and discussed the creation of her great sophomore release (under her own name), The Returner.

Octavius Kahiya (who hosts Something Like It Fridays at 5pm) joins me to discuss his other show, the Afro-Amalgamation Podcast which is produced out of and hosted by UMFM but is an offshoot of the Afro-Caribbean Mentorship Program which Kahiya is involved with.

On the topic of podcasts, this episode of TGIFR also features a re-airing of an episode from the series Engage! Earlier this week co-host Caid Jones was involved in a tragic event and so in his honour I'm playing one of the episodes Jones and Josue Davi produced for UMFM. Originally published July 29, 2021, it's a conversation with the Executive Director of Sunshine House, Levi Foy. The podcast was a series focused on "the peo­ple and orga­ni­za­tions in our com­mu­ni­ty who have tak­en the ini­tia­tive to help grow and give back" and produced by the pair during the period in which the station was operating remotely.
