Will true love overcome the ultimate loss? That is the question that the short film called The Ring, produced by Lionel Stive and Armand Lopez, asks the audience and does it in a very gentle, melancholic, and moving manner. The same short film opens with a tragic passing of a young woman, witnessed by a man who is the love of her life. In the time that ensues, the same man tries to get to grips with the same tragic loss, knowing that their wedding ring could bring her back, at least in his mind.

The Ring approaches its sombre topic in a very effective and emphatic manner. The audience can feel the environments where the film takes place, no matter if these are sloping meadows and their beautiful, lush nature, or the empty spaces of a home that no longer houses two people, but only one. This, along with a perfectly crafted soundtrack offers an insight into a world of a man who is heartbroken. The same is something you can feel in every frame and every conversation. But, ultimately, The Ring promises a chance for change and for things to get better, which is a very important message.

Thanks to its clear quality and the ability to connect with people, the same short film will appear at the Shockfest Film Festival. Here, the audience will be able to see it and experience the touching story for themselves. It is also more than certain that The Ring will appear at many other festivals as well in the coming months!

We’ve all made the well-intended pledge of ‘new year, new me’ – but often the thoughts of countless hours in the gym or a run outdoors in the cold means our new year’s resolutions often fade before the Christmas decorations make a return to the attic.

More than a third of UK adults have, or plan to set a resolution to be physically healthier in 2023, despite many not feeling able to achieve this. Research has found that 15% of the nation set this as a resolution every year but have never been able to achieve it.

As we approach 2023, only half of the nation (52%) rates their health as either excellent or good and fewer than half (47%) are happy with their body image.

New research highlights how only half of the individuals (55%) are currently prioritising their health, with 1 in 5 of us (23%) feeling unhealthy when January arrives due to overindulging in the festive period.

Data from Benenden Health highlights how a quarter of UK adults don’t know the right exercise for their bodies and fewer than a fifth of people (16%) signal that they love exercising.

Sometimes it’s the little steps that can evolve into a positive change and through the ‘Time for a check in’ campaign, Benenden Health is on a mission to get everybody talking about and checking in with their health more, with the ultimate aim to get the nation talking about both their physical and mental.

  • Dr Thomas Gangale

Dr Thomas Gangale, the author of The Martian Almanac, holds a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, a master’s in international relations, and a doctorate in space, cyber, and telecommunications law. In addition, he managed the technical and contractual aspects of the Hexagon and Gambit photoreconnaissance satellite systems and the payloads for the STS-4 and STS-39 Space Shuttle missions while serving as a US Air Force officer.

Thomas and Marilyn Dudley connected while working on a project for the Mars Society. They were a Martian pair. Thomas carried on with her work after she passed, and as he did so, Thomas had the impression that she was constantly with him

Thomas Gangale has authored technical studies on human Mars mission concepts and interacting with Mars astronauts during solar conjunctions. Additionally, he has argued that extraterrestrial resource extraction for financial gain is permissible and challenged the von Karman line and the technical foundations for the Bogota Declaration in legal journal papers. He has written four books before.

Marilyn and Thomas had long discussed writing books together. They collaborated on numerous conference articles, but he was too preoccupied with obtaining his master’s and PhD degrees to publish a book with her. He has finally finished the Mars book they had discussed writing together but never started. It is the first of, in the ideal world, a string of works that will be released long after Thomas has joined Marilyn.

  • Margaret Mitchell Faiver

As a child, Margaret, then called Peggie, walked alone through the hills of Western Pennsylvania imagining tales of wild adventures in mysterious lands. It was there, amidst the fields of corn, waves of wheat, and thickets of the woods, that the seeds of her life as a writer were sown. Following a lifetime of service to others not only as a mother and wife but as a church musician and piano teacher to hundreds of students, Margaret retrieved the volumes of writings she had kept to herself and claimed her true passion—storytelling.

In what she terms “the last trimester of my life,” she lives by the motto, If not now, when? In the past decade, she has earned a B.A. in English from Shepherd University, Shepherdstown, West Virginia, and an MFA in Creative Writing from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. The stories she pens span the genres of mysteries, historical fiction, and what she has coined, “historical horror,” macabre tales imagined in the lives of figures from the past. Her work has appeared in Sans Merci Literary Magazine, and Boshemia. Running from Her Feet is her debut novel.

Margaret lives in a log cabin in the heart of heaven, the Appalachian Mountains, with her husband, Rick, and their dog-child, Heidi.

  • Alan Marsh

It’s was quite the rollercoaster in 2022, with a new King and a lot of Prime Ministers.

Not to mention the disappointing World Cup result, the rocketing fuel bills or Matt Hancock making it to the final of I’m A Celebrity.

But Glastonbury was back! And the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee got the country firmly in the party spirit.

Then the scorching summer gave way to an icy blast that had us hugging our hot water bottles. And Harry and Meghan released that documentary.

But even though 2022 was sometimes memorable for all the wrong reasons, there’s every reason to be positive about 2023.

And even though the Coronation of King Charles III, on Saturday, May 6, 2023, will be a ‘slimmed down’ affair, we can expect the famous gold coach and plenty of pomp and pageantry.

Plus we get an extra bank holiday – on Monday, May 8, 2023.

The lads didn’t manage to bring it home, but now the Lionesses step up for the Women’s World Cup.

Matches start on July 20, 2023, and run for a month, at venues in Australia and New Zealand.

Their Euro 2022 win at Wembley was epic and there’s every reason to hope the Lionesses can lift that trophy.

Upcoming movies include Harrison Ford back for a final hurrah in Indiana Jones 5: The Dial Of Destiny, while the pink-tinged trailer depicting Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling hooking up as Barbie and Ken is to die for.

Plus what promises to be the wackiest movie of 2023: Cocaine Bear. It’s inspired by a true story of a bear who ingests a truckload of cocaine – and the trailer is quite something.

Thanks to our very own Space Man, Sam Ryder, finally breaking our wretched run and coming second to Ukraine, the UK will host the festival of fabulousness that is Eurovision.

It’s all happening in Liverpool, and tickets will go on sale for the semi-finals on May 9 and 11, and for the Grand Final on May 13. So whether you settle in for a night with Graham Norton on the telly or head to the city and party till dawn, Eurovision 2023 is sure to be douze points all around.
