September 08, 2022Wenzl McGowenWenzl McGowen is a member and co-founder of the internationally touring band Moon Hooch and the inventor of the Traffic Cone Saxophone. In 2013, Wenzl had a spiritual awakening during a meditation retreat and has since written two books about mystical experiences, meditation, and the science of personal growth. Both books draw from ancient teachings, direct experience, and modern science. He aims to free spirituality from dogmas and provide a framework to integrate awakening experiences without religion and superstition. At the same time, his work is inspired by sincere devotion to a dimension of reality that has given rise to concepts such as God or the Great Spirit. He doesn’t subscribe to the idea that words can capture the essence of consciousness, yet he taps into that realm to become a better person and bring more joy, creativity, love and insight into his life. Another avenue of his passion for personal growth is his meditation music and his board games. Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. September 02, 2022Dr Nachi SinhaMaintaining a work-life balance is a common problem in today’s era. People devote more than half of their days to their bosses and companies. Some people do it because they love their jobs and don’t mind spending extra hours doing what they love. Others work to earn some extra cash. No matter what the case, working for long hours exhausts us. But, do you know what’s more exhausting even when you are passionate about your job? It's workplace bullying that drains the person mentally. The term workplace bullying refers to mocking or targeted behaviour at work. The employee is bullied by his colleagues, seniors, juniors, and sometimes even the bosses. According to 2017 research from the Workplace Bullying Institute:70% of males and 30% of females are bullies.Women are more likely the target of bullies.Bullying from bosses and seniors accounts for 61% of the bullying. Followed by bullying from co-workers, which is 33%. Only 6% of bullying comes from junior-level people, which is 6%. Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. September 02, 2022Matt ButteryHundreds of thousands of four-year-olds will next week begin their school life, but many parents have reported concerns that their child just isn’t ‘ready’.While it is simple to tick off some preparations like buying a uniform, shoes, backpack and a lunchbox, developmental and behavioural milestones are perhaps harder to be confident on.For this year’s starters, they have spent two crucial years of development in lockdown and missed out on key opportunities to socialise and prepare for school in nursery settings, playgroups, and even playgrounds.Although starting school is such a big milestone for both parents and children, nearly half (49%) of mums and dads are not confident that they know what their child should be doing developmentally and when.27% of parents are unsure whether their child is ready to start school and 18% have real concerns about their readiness, according to a new report by positive parenting programme Triple P.Sadly, three-quarters (75%) believe there is a stigma around asking for help with parenting issues and 20% do not have any friends or family (15%) to help them with parenting concerns. Some of the skills parents believe their children starting school lack include having no bedtime routine (18%), not being able to hold a pencil correctly (17%), being unable to zip up their coat (17%) and not being able to look after their belongings (12%).Around 23% turn online to places like Mumsnet/Netmums for parenting advice and 17% go to Facebook support groups.Matt Buttery, CEO of Triple P and father, understands how our children starting school is a big moment in life and something all parents would like them to be ready for. September 02, 2022Gloria HunnifordOlder people who have reservations about using the internet could be losing almost £1,000 a year by not being computer savvy, according to a new study released today. With nearly half (45%) of Brits over 65 admitting they don’t feel completely comfortable going online, and the cost-of-living crisis set to deepen this autumn, new research by Vodafone suggests many older people could face a further squeeze on their living standards due to concerns about using the internet to shop around for the best deals or pay for goods and services.Over 65s who are not fully at ease using the internet could be forking out an extra £97 on clothes, £158 on entertainment services, £184 on travel and missing out on £156 of state entitlements - adding up to a potential loss of £909 per person each year.Importantly, the implications aren’t solely financial. The research also highlighted that two-fifths (42%) of pensioners who have reservations about going online feel forgotten when ‘digital first' is the default option while 38% are more likely to feel stressed when services require an online action, such as booking a doctor’s appointment via a website. Two-fifths (39%) in this group felt they’d been prevented from improving their digital skills because they didn’t know where to look for help. And of those who already felt very comfortable online, more than a quarter (27%) said they would benefit from learning new digital skills. Consumer champion Gloria Hunniford has teamed up with Vodafone UK Foundation and leading charity Independent Age to launch Hi Digital, a programme designed to help the over 65s develop their digital skills, save money, and feel more connected.Hi Digital is an online resource that offers step-by-step advice on digital essentials such as using a search engine, online shopping, accessing news and keeping in touch with family and friends.Other key findings from the study show that half (54%) of those who expressed some doubts about fully embracing the digital world said this was due to concern about scams and online security; not knowing how to fix something if it goes wrong (49%) and finding the pace at which the digital world changes too hard to keep up with (38%).Traditional chores for over 65s could be revolutionised through the internet; however, currently, only a quarter (26%) feel very comfortable claiming benefits digitally and less than a half (45%) say they are very comfortable booking a doctor’s appointment or ordering a prescription online.
