C-SPAN remembers U.S. Presidents making surprise holiday visits to troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.  With President Biden withdrawing U.S. troops from Afghanistan, the United States now has no troops engaged in an active war overseas. So, this year, no surprise presidential visits to active war zones for the holidays. Revisit President Bush visiting U.S. troops in Iraq in 2003 for Thanksgiving and again for Christmas in 2008; President Obama in Afghanistan during the 2010 holiday season; and President Trump in Iraq for Christmas in 2018 and Thanksgiving in Afghanistan in 2019.
