47.00" Jim Robinson, President, Connecticut School of Broadcasting. Son of legendary radio DJ, Dick Robinson. The family grew a multi location school of broadcasting that they sold to a hedge fund, bought it back and continue to trade very successfully, even attracting students from Ireland. He started working in the school at 12, he ended up travelling with Pope John Paul II touring the world, he worked with legendary actor Paul Newman who wanted him to go to work in Hollywood, but the family business attracted him more.

Kevin Maughan, co-founder of Urban Volt, a company that will put solar panels on your business rooftop at no cost to you. He quotes a well known business proverb 'There's worse things to being wrong in business, you can be too early'. They believed in their business proposition when others didn't and they had to wait, and wait, for the market to come to them...But did he ever think of packing it in???

He has some very interesting observations about energy efficiency.

Does he think we've achieved peak output from solar panels?

And, they've started installing big, big batteries - and he explains how much electricity you get out of a battery.

And why does ESB not want to take electricity generated from Urban Volt's solar panels?

His company offered to put solar panels on every school in the country, within eighteen months, and he says 'no one's interested'.

He organises everything for his guests, and that can be casinos, Irish dancing, camp fire nights., African drumming...anything (almost!). If you're in hospitality, hear why dog holidays are going through the roof. He talks about what Covid did for them...and the true entrepreneur pivoted and housed doctors and other front line workers, essential to allow them to serve in hospital. It also gave him time to think.

He comes very close to naming some of his very high profile clients (famous musicians, dignitaries from the Middle East...)...see if you can guess who they are.

His venue is different in that they actively want to have hens and stag parties in his venue.

Now, she's made a delivery. She has just launched Fashion Connect Ireland, a Specialist Training Centre that is recruiting a 17 week certified course for industrial sewing technicians - based in New Ross, Co. Wexford (and that's only the beginning, she's going nationwide eventually). This could be the beginning of something big. She wants to revive the Made in Ireland label and is looking for people who dream of creating their own clothing brand.

But, she needs backing but the State seems to be a bit slow to pick up the baton. Can you help?

The now married couple have set up the Rebel City Distillery, makers of the Maharani gin, flavoured with spices from Bhagya's home state of Kerala in India. This Indian/Ireland flavour mix is what makes their gin stand out in a crowded market. They have already launched Ireland's first absinthe. There's a very different vodka on the way and they also talk about an up and coming rum. Next stop, the US where they want any contacts they can get to help spread the Rebel City name.

Robert's 'hire in a heartbeat' is Danish beer pioneer, Mikkel Borg Bjergso. Bhagya wants to hire former Pepsico Chair and CEO, Indra Nooyi.

 On E126 we were joined by Sharon Farrell of credit consultancy FACE – when she explained one of the basics of business to us…that’s how to get paid.  

An absolute essential Sharon said, was to do a credit check on your potential customers, no matter how small you, or they are. So how do you do that? By using a credit checking agency. CRIF Vision-net is one of those companies that helps customers manage commercial risk and consumer screening requirements. That’s a nice way of saying, ‘they spot dodgy’ and Head Dodgy Spotter is Christine Cullen MD and co-founder of CRIF Vision.net….

And, we were joined by Geraldine Magnier Idiro Analytics who is also Chair of the SMALL FIRMS ASSOCIATION, the SFA. She's a busy lady as she's also Technology Ireland Person of the Year, co-founder of Idiro Analytics with her husband Aidan Connolly. She’s also an actor, a milliner, … and she has also starred on her own podcast. Busy lady.
