Christians have often been too libertarian about drugs, failing to see that many mind-altering substances are spiritually dangerous and historically linked to witchcraft and idolatry. Scripture associates sorcery with “pharmakeia,” and the Bible consistently warns against drunkenness and altered states that open people to demonic influence. Therefore, Christian magistrates have a duty to suppress drug use that invites demonic activity, just as they are called to tear down modern high places like abortion clinics and pot shops.
