  • Interview 3 of 3 with Kevin Rardin: Memphis Crime

Please message us! We’ll pin to the episode, and would love a dialogue.

In the final episode with Lt. Col. Rardin, he will discuss Memphis crime and juvenile justice.  As a man that has practiced law almost as long as I've been alive, and done it in a tough town, he is more qualified than anyone I've ever known to discuss this topic.

Kevin discusses the problems and offers innovative solutions that I believe will make Memphis a better place to live if these solutions are applied.

Memphis is a beautiful, vibrant city filled with interesting people, and it can be safer than it is.

Thank you, Kevin, for giving us your time and spreading real knowledge.

  • Interview 2 of 3 with Kevin Rardin - National Guard in Memphis, TN

Please message us! We’ll pin to the episode, and would love a dialogue.

Memphis, TN has garnered White House attention, and not in the best way.  The beautiful city that sits at the Western tip of Tennessee, touching Mississippi to the South and Arkansas and the Mississippi River to the West, has been plagued by issues for a long time.  Kevin Rardin spent 33 years prosecuting in the Memphis courthouse located at 201 Poplar Avenue in the heart of downtown.  He then spent 6 years as a public defender.  He has worked in both Juvenile Court and Veteran's Court.

Due to his time as a JAG (Judge Advocate General, AKA military lawyer) in the Army Reserve and National Guard, Kevin has an unusual knowledge of how the National Guard actually works when deployed.  What rules do they have?  How many will be sent?  What job specialties will be utilized?  What is their mission likely to be?

Kevin not only knows the rules they will have to follow, but closely follows Memphis and Shelby County politics.  He has followed how other cities have utilized troops that are sent there and what Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris and Memphis Mayor Paul Young have said in public statements.

Kevin has been on the news several times being interviewed as a subject matter expert.

Citizens of Memphis and Shelby County:  If you want to know what to expect, look no further.

  • Interview 1 of 3 with Lieutenant Colonel Kevin Rardin - Intro and Afghanistan

Please message us! We’ll pin to the episode, and would love a dialogue.

In this first interview, Kevin discusses his background and his voluntary deployment to Afghanistan at the age of 49.  During this deployment he was awarded the Bronze Star, which to those that don't know, is a really big deal and means he did something WAY above and beyond the norm.  He discusses the hardest time of his deployment, which came many years after he returned home.  Kevin has been on local news in Memphis, TN several times objectively discussing what the Tennessee National Guard can do legally while deployed within the city.

Below I will post his background as written on International Organization for Transitional Justice and Peace website regarding his current activities during "retirement":  Kevin Rardin

Mr. Kevin Rardin brings a wealth of experience and dedication to the ITJP. With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, Mr. Rardin has served as a prosecutor for 33 years, representing the state of Tennessee in numerous high-profile jury trials involving serious crimes.

In addition to his prosecutorial work, Mr. Rardin spent five years as an assistant public defender, advocating for the rights of children in the Shelby County Juvenile Court. His commitment to justice extends beyond the courtroom, having served as an Army Reserve Judge Advocate for 21 years. During his service, Kevin completed a 12-month active duty tour in Kandahar, Afghanistan, where his efforts to strengthen the rule of law within the Afghan National Army earned him the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Action in a Combat Zone. He retired from the Army Reserve as a lieutenant colonel in 2010.

Kevin’s dedication to justice and human rights is further demonstrated by his active involvement in various organizations. He serves on the board of the Memphis Council of the United States Navy League and is a Fellow with both the Association of Prosecuting Attorneys (APA) and Global Friends of Afghanistan (GFA). In 2019, he was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the “Best of Bar” in Memphis.

At ITJP, Kevin leverages his extensive legal expertise and deep commitment to human rights to support the organization’s mission of combating core international crimes, advocating for victims, demanding justice, and fostering lasting peace and human rights in Afghanistan. His experience and dedication are invaluable assets in the fight for justice and peace globally.

  • Spooky October has arrived

Please message us! We’ll pin to the episode, and would love a dialogue.

All right, I’m done talking about spooky October. Short introductory episode where I’m basically begging for some money. I pay about $20 a month to keep my stuff online and have some simple editing tools to keep the sound quality good. If you feel so inclined, you can do a small monthly donation of a couple bucks which will go straight toward my account payment. No big deal and I hope you enjoy the content and spending your next month raking
    leaves.

  • Welcome to Spooky October

Please message us! We’ll pin to the episode, and would love a dialogue.

Good morning, good morning good morning!

I was so thrilled with the two interviews from September. I feel like Doctor Hoar interview should almost be mandatory to everyone in the world because in one hour there’s so much information about overall fitness and health.

Preston did a great job explaining the importance of training and the intangibles that come with being highly trained.

I’m looking forward to October and already have some other content that I’m very happy with recorded including me just running my mouth and some interviews.

Now it’s time for me to ask a favor.

If you are enjoying the content, pick one that you like, and share it to some people within your department. If you think the episode on the fourth amendment was valuable to you and helped to develop your understanding, please spread it to other investigators in your agency. I’m rounding 2500 downloads and although that is awesome it’s probably about 200 people. Share it with your training unit or prosecutor that you work with and see what they think.

Guild solutions group on Instagram has used several bits of the interview with Jabo and spliced it with some action shots from their training and it’s a very cool look.

I hope you enjoy this 45 second episode, and let’s get spooky in October.

Welcome back!  If you are reading this description, I find it likely that you enjoyed the first conversation with Preston.  I hope you enjoy the second thirty minutes, and in the last week I'm sure you've gone to a free session at your local BJJ / kickboxing / boxing / Judo / Muay Thai gym, been beaten up a bit, and are ready for more!

Thank you for continuing to listen, and I hope you're proud of yourself for wanting to continue to develop as a human being despite reaching adulthood.

  • Interview with Preston Russ - Jiu Jitsu gym owner, lead instructor, current competitor and former USMC Officer

Please message us! We’ll pin to the episode, and would love a dialogue.

Meet Preston (or "sir" as I would have called him in the Marines)

As you can see from the headline (and his gnarly ears), he is one tough cookie on the mat.  As per the first episode of the month, we will discuss discipline and how it relates to training combat sports such as BJJ.

I challenge you to find a middle aged RECREATIONAL BJJ student that lacks discipline.  This interview with an active COMPETITIVE student of the sport aims to enlighten on the importance of training for the mind, body and soul.

I said in a previous episode that if you need advice from someone that will not create drama and will seek to understand your issues and not judge you, find an older BJJ student.

If you learn BJJ as a LEO, you are VERY unlikely to ever get beaten up by the criminals of this world.

If you need a spinal / hip / neck / whatever adjustment, IV drip therapy or a spa day and you're in range of Knoxville, TN, check out Alcoa Chiropractic and improve your mobility while reducing your pain.

Here's a link to a video from late last year, and I encourage you to check it out and explore his page.  See if the things he talks about can improve your mobility and fitness.
