I've been informed by a reliable source that without a somewhat braggy, self-promoting, awe-inspiring episode, my credibility is mud.

What he actually said is that I should explain my background to you, the listeners.  According to him, without knowing my background, I'm just some random guy giving advice. This episode will also help to influence your career decisions on what moves to make and  when. There is always some level of anxiety with change. Hopefully an overview of my choices will help to positively influence yours.

At the very least, it will enhance your reflection on what you’ve done and get you thinking more about possible outcomes before you make lateral or upward moves in your agency.

A wise man once told me "Leadership is service."  Although that's very simplified, if that's your basic principle, you can expect success.  Of course, there must be boundaries, or you'll just get walked on.

This episode of That LEO Guy explores supervision and leadership in a law enforcement environment.  Law Enforcement, like all professions, has a wide spread of leadership types.  Everywhere from absent to micromanaging, from empathetic to dominant, and from enlightening and kind to utterly toxic, we have it all!

I absolutely love this part of being a LEO.  Getting people to admit to the worst thing they ever did that will put them away for years or life is special.  Getting the uncooperative to cooperate takes finesse, and that finesse takes years to develop and a lifetime to perfect.

This episode will teach LEOs, military intelligence, waiters & waitresses, car salesmen and everyone in between how to talk to people instead of at people.

OK I exaggerated, it won't teach you all that.  However, it will provide a very base level overview of the subject which I will expand on in later episodes, as well as conduct interviews with experts dissecting techniques.

Staying the course of levity for the week, today's episode will cover my favorite LEO focused books, movies, and TV shows.  I would love if people corrected or added to my list via the link in the episode or the FB page.

Thank you for your continued listenership, and next week we'll get back to business as usual!

In episode 2 of homicide investigation interviews with Rob & Al, we delve deeper into the realm.  We will discuss homicide supervision and mental health management while working a difficult job with sporadic hours and a multitude of other challenges.

In this episode, That LEO Guy will interview two career homicide investigators.  Both have had successful careers, and in the opening segment of three they will discuss their backgrounds, general homicide investigation information for the public, how to move into a homicide unit as a patrol officer, and will provide a general overview of what it's all about.

According to these guys, watching movies and TV shows does not present a realistic picture of the life of a murder cop.  Listen today to get all the info you want!

Car chases are fun, exciting, and pretty rare.  At least in my experience.  However, the danger and high stakes involved make them something you should have thought about before it happens.

In today's episode of That LEO Guy, we will dissect the vehicle pursuit, policy and safety considerations, and general decision making.

I hope you enjoy and follow the FB page listed below to get updates and give me more feedback!  Thank you for your continued support.

Today's episode will be on the dangers of complacency.  100% of us still become complacent, some more than others.  Today I will be discussing the dangers of letting your guard down and various situations where complacency will get you hurt.  I will also provide some strategies for how to avoid becoming complacent without becoming hyper-vigilant Robocop.

Thank you for listening, and any feedback via Facebook (That LEO Guy) will be read and respected.

As a police officer, you're bound by law / policy / age / fitness / diet issues / bad schedules / moral codes.  Your young criminal is bound by NOTHING.  Decisions before, during and after a foot pursuit matter.  This episode will provide the guidance you need to be better prepared!

There are enough movies, TV shows, books, and now podcasts about SWAT operations.  Most of these are filled with misleading messiness.  This episode will clarify what SWAT teams ACTUALLY do, loosely how they do it, why they do it, and how YOU can do it if that's what you want with your career.
