Episode 34 might be our most all-over-the-map but beautifully connected one yet.
We open with Alex Steeves — the unexpected spark plug for the Bruins — and why it feels fitting, because we also get into the music artist Mike (formerly Mike Stud), a Rhode Island native whose fanbase literally calls themselves Steves. We talk about his Red Rocks show, his cult-like following, why his music hits so hard, and how it somehow fits perfectly into the Gross Hockey universe.
From there, we dive into the Bruins “Moneyball” approach under Don Sweeney. Whether people like it or not, it has worked before (Zacha, Geekie)… and could again with guys like Mittlestadt, Steeves, and Khusnutdinov. We’re seeing real flashes from Fraser Minten, we talk about the pipeline, and we ask the question every Bruins fan is asking:
We break down Bedard + Celly for Team Canada, World Juniors buzz, and the early chaos around the Winter Olympics roster battles — spots are shrinking the deeper we get into the season.
Then we talk enforcers in today’s NHL, why the “skilled scumbag” is becoming one of the most valuable archetypes, why fighting isn’t dying anytime soon, and what the future of physical play looks like.
Finally, we get into the advanced analytics vs. eye test debate. Moneyball works… but it isn’t gospel. There’s value in the numbers and in the vibes — and the truth is somewhere in between.
Hockey talk with purpose, personality, strong opinions, and the occasional cult of Steves.
In Episode 33, we kick things off with the wild story of Mason West — a first-round NHL pick who’s still playing college football. Could he actually pull off the impossible and become both an NHLer and an NFL player? We break down the odds, the athleticism, and what it would mean for the sport.
Then we jump into the photo everyone’s talking about: Jack Hughes and Tate McRae. Could this be the NHL’s version of Travis & Taylor? A real pop-culture crossover that finally pushes hockey into the mainstream? We get into what it could mean for the league and for hockey culture as a whole.
We also look at the revenue gap between major leagues, why hockey lags, and where the NHL could level up.
We wrap with some Thanksgiving vibes — what we’re thankful for, on and off the ice, and the people who make the Gross community what it is.
That’s hockey. That’s culture. That’s Gross.
Episode 32 of That’s Gross dives into everything happening across the NHL — starting with the Bruins, who are in a familiar spot in the standings but battling a ton of adversity as the injury bug keeps piling up. We break down where the team truly stands, how Hampus Lindholm has transformed their play since returning, and what Mason Lohrei still needs to tighten up defensively to take that next big step. We compare their games, look at sequences, and talk about how Lohrei can model key pieces of his development after Lindholm’s steady, elite presence.
From there, we zoom out to the broader league — the insane parity this season, the rise of young talent everywhere, and how guys like Macklin Celebrini, Connor Bedard, and Marat Khusnutdinov are already shifting the NHL landscape. Plus, we talk about Billy Tibbets, a beauty we want on the pod soon.
We’ve added a brand-new segment to the podcast where we pull up NHL footage live and break it down as we talk. If you want the full experience, everything from around the 20-minute mark to the end is available on YouTube — and it’s definitely the best way to watch the back half of the show.
Bruins adversity, player development, league-wide chaos, and the next generation of stars — it’s all in here. That’s Gross.
On episode 31 of That's Gross, the boys break down the Bruins' 7 game heater as well as talk about what's going around the rest of the league.
Zadorov hitting everything in sight, Pastrnak leading and breaking the 400 goal mark, Minten showing early signs of becoming an elite two way center, and the entire team finding their identity; are the Big Bad Bruins back? Marco Sturm's locker room speech, and the dismantling of the Leafs, all signs that maybe things are right in the world.
Around the League; other than MacKinnon, the young guns are running the NHL. Anaheim is 2nd in the League, Bedard and Celebrini are electrifying and leading the way for their teams. The parity and youth production in the NHL right now are like never before seen.
Must watch TV, or listen, as the NHL is the best league in sports and Gross is the next big thing in hockey. New Gross Hockey hats coming soon, dropping Gross beanies for the winter, Puck Don't Lie back in stock, and the B's are buzzing. Tune in.
On episode 28 of That's Gross, the boys discuss some real world topics; careers and lifestyles. They then move on to talk about the Bruins 5 game slide, Brad Marchands' return, the emotional display from him, and then the bizarre bounce that lost them the game. The boys are back and the Bruins are buzzing to start the year and talk hockey. We break down Boston’s 3–1 start — from Elias Lindholm’s smooth fit to Mittelstadt’s impact, Zacha’s strong play, both goalies holding it down, and the depth finally showing up. Powerplay? Clicking. PK? Locked in. Vibes? Immaculate.
Mike’s fresh off an Italian adventure and shares some travel chaos (including the art of not talking on planes), plus we get into the hunt for a new car and some quick hits from around the NHL. It’s a little Bruins therapy, a little life talk, and a whole lotta gross.
With our fearless host Mike off exploring the pasta, wine, and history of Italy for the next couple of weeks, Jake and JB are stepping up to keep the ship sailing—and the takes flowing. Just because one of us is living the dream doesn’t mean the hockey world slows down, and there’s a lot to cover this week.
In this episode, the boys dive deep into the latest buzz around the league, starting with some major recent signings that have already started shaping the upcoming season. From surprising contract numbers to teams making bold moves, Jake and JB give their unfiltered reactions and what it all might mean heading into the first puck drop.
Closer to home, they break down what the Boston Bruins' Game 1 roster might look like. Will the lineup bring the grit, speed, and skill fans are hoping for? Or are there still question marks that need answers? Whether you're a die-hard B’s fan or just love solid hockey talk, there’s plenty here for you.
And of course, it wouldn’t be an episode without a few classic stories from the rink—including some pickup hockey moments that were equal parts chaotic, hilarious, and painfully relatable.
Expect laughs, questionable takes, and that signature “gross hockey boys” energy we’ve built this show on.
Thanks as always for tuning in—we appreciate every one of you for riding with us. We’re fired up for the season ahead, and even with Mike overseas, the hockey talk doesn’t stop. Let’s go!
Oh and ya, keep an eye out for some more Gross Hockey Merch...
The preseason is underway and the boys are buzzing. Mike, JB, and Jake are back – and this time we’ve got our buddy "Meis" joining the show, bringing some stats, betting lines, and plenty of hot takes. We kick things off with early thoughts on preseason action before diving into season predictions across the NHL, including which teams could surprise and who might fall off.
We get into the Bruins – what they look like heading into the year, and why there’s definitely “Sum 2 Prove in Boston.” Then we go around the league with breakout player picks, too early Cup Final predictions, and bold calls on teams that haven’t made it recently but could sneak in this year.
The guys also chop it up about players labeled as those who “can’t win” – like Matthews and Marner – and debate whether that narrative is fair, if other sports have similar storylines, or if it’s something unique to hockey.
On top of that, we mix in some laughs:
The biggest scumbags in sports history (inside and outside hockey)
The dumbest things we’ve ever done, and the learning moments that came with them
Packed with hockey talk, betting chatter, and plenty of Gross humor, this one sets the stage for the season ahead.

That’s Gross is a laid-back hockey show hosted by three unapologetic "hockey guys" from New England — JB, Mike and Jake. Self-proclaimed pigeons with a passion for the game (and a few excuses for why they never made The Show), they bring a mix of insight, chirps, and chaos to every episode.
The show covers everything from NHL headlines and Boston Bruins breakdowns to league-wide stories, current events, and personal tales from their own lives. If you love hockey culture as much as you love the game itself, That’s Gross is for you.
This isn’t just another hockey podcast — it’s your favorite locker room banter, a hockey lifestyle dialogue.
