Have you ever gotten ahead of yourself? You know I have. I was taking a tour of the Chicago Lyric Opera. I had so many questions… at one point the tour guide said, “I was getting there…” So I stopped talking and listened to the expert. In Ecclesiastes, the narrator of the book is addressed as a teacher. In chapter five the “teacher” gives a description of worthless ways we can worship God. Ecclesiastes 5:1-3 says, “Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few. As a dream comes when there are many cares, so the speech of a fool when there are many words.” There is nothing more comforting to me than to be reminded that I am human and God is God. I am on earth. God is in heaven. You may have a to-do list a mile high and a prayer list even longer. Take a deep breath. You are human and God is God.

This was the summer of the scooters. Scooters were everywhere in the city. My cousin told me she thrives on scooters. I laughed so hard at her comment. How do we thrive? Here's a verse I found that will help you thrive not only in the summer but in life.

​I went to Bradford IL to their annual parade. It's not too often that I am around that many tractors. I felt lost. That’s also how I feel when I read II Corinthians 6:14-18, “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols?" I don’t know what yoked means and going to a temple is not a part of my daily routine. What this passage has to do with the way we live today will surprise you.

You wouldn't listen to a doctor or psychologist who never went to school and answers questions based on their own opinions, right? Well, the same is true about spiritual things. Whether you are listening to a Christian author or a pastor on Instagram, you need to make sure they are going back to the Bible for their answers.

Kindness is a superpower. When you're stuck in traffic or waiting for the doctor, or spending time with a two-year-old, kindness starts to get hard. That's why we need Christ's power to be kind.

My husband and I have a couple's journal. The last time we went on a date the question from the journal sparked an interesting conversation about confession. Confession allows us to have a deeper relationship with Jesus.

I am a city driver and I use my turning signal to weave in and out of traffic. Similarily, when we face conflict we need to communicate when we are upset. 

​I went to Moody Bible Institute to learn how to be a better Christian. I learned about who God is. The more I learned about who God is, the more I realized I am a horrible Christian. So what did I learn at Bible college? More, so much more.
