  • Coeliac awareness week

    There's a condition in Ireland that an estimated 36,500 people are living with but they remain undiagnosed. An estimated 7,300 children who have the condition remain undiagnosed. This condition is a chronic auto immune disease which impacts on growth and development in children as well as impacting on their concentration at school and their energy levels in all areas of their lives. What is the condition known as…..Coeliac disease.

    This week marks Coeliac awareness week and the The Coeliac Society of Ireland has enlisted its army of 3,600 members for sponsored walks to raise awareness of the issue. Gill Brennan CEO of Coeliac society of Ireland joined Sinead on 11-1 to raise awareness of the condition

    On Thursday's 11-1 Sinéad opened up about her own experiences with post natal depression after her second baby. Laura Erskrine mum in residence mummy pages who is on maternity leave now joined her to discuss this real issue affecting 1 in 5 women. They also highlighted the  #make over motherhood campaign on social media encouraging women to post real images of them in their role as mothers unfiltered. Laura gave some top advice for any mums feeling overwhelmed.

  • Barbara Brennan Green Ribbon Month

    Barbara Brennan Project co-ordinator from See change joined Sinéad on today's 11-1,  May 1st marks the start of the month long Green Ribbon campaign aiming to break down the stigma associated with mental health issues. Barbara says she wants people to speak about depression and other mental illness in the open and transparent way you would talk about having a cold or other common ailments.

  • Camille O Sullivan 'The Rape of Lucrece'
    It's not every day you see an actress take on the role of rape victim, rapist and rape victim's father but Camille O Sullivan is no ordinary actress. One only needs to look at her impressive and diverse career as both an actress and a singer to see that she likes to challenge herself creatively and likes to push boundaries. She is bringing an adaptation of Shakespeare's epic narrative poem the rape of Lucrece to Drogheda's Droichead Arts Centre as part of this year's Drogheda Arts festival, difficult subject matter and no better woman than Camille O Sullivan to bring it to the stage. Here she talks Shakespeare, taking on the intense role and dueting with her partner actor Aidan Gillen.

    St Louis Secondary school students Natasha Kearney and Ugochi Enyoazu dropped in to 11-1 to discuss the importance of protecting the environment and how small changes can make a big difference. The students attended the global schools award ceremony in Croke Park recently and received the Diplomatic passport award in recognition of the work they are doing at the school to promote global awareness.
