Will you be THE 25TH HOUR's Valentine? Catch up on this past week's news.
* De Blasio announced a reopening of middle schools by the end of February, so get your pre-teens ready for their return to awkward puberty years.
* Get Cuomo Shonda Rhimes because he is facing a MASSIVE scandal following his Secretary's admission of covering up nursing home deaths to hide from the Trumpian Feds. Oh, and he announced indoor dining has reopened 25% with an 11PM curfew, but don't get too crazy!
* Everyone in DC is breathing a sigh of worried relief now that Trump has been acquitted of impeachment charges a second time, and can now quietly turn to the humble work of spending a massive, complicated $1.9 trillion COVID relief plan.
* Biden announced new deals for enough vaccine supplies to inoculate almost every American against COVID, with April being the month everyone might be able to get in line.

THE 25TH HOUR takes you into this snowy February 2021, and the year is just SKATING by.
* De Blasio keeps his head down as Governor Cuomo keeps taking heat from all sides from revelations stemming from the undercount of his nursing home death count.
* Governor Cuomo is just super inconvenienced that New Yorkers don't understand that there isn't enough vaccine for everyone and restaurants want to reopen.
* Biden is taking his lessons from the 2008 recovery and isn't going to wait for Republicans to slow down COVID relief efforts. The President also outlined his foreign policy goals and is making sure Trump won't hear the details.
* Congress took the first steps to clearing the COVID relief bill, and will pause that for a moment to try and convict former President Trump starting next week.
* The Supreme Court keeps outlining what isn't allowed for states to do during the pandemic, including banning indoor worshipping outright. It's okay to ban it juuuust a little.

This is THE 25TH HOUR and here's your review of the week in the news for January 24-30, 2021:
* De Blasio released his State of the City address, touching on different policies that can revive the City. But does De Blasio have enough time before NYC chooses a new Mayor and the next one might scrap all of this altogether?
* Cuomo's administration finally released nursing home data that shows deaths were underreported by 50%. It's all good with the Governor though, since he said everyone else is just making a big deal out of this for no reason.
* Biden is BUSY! Signing executive orders left and right, he is undoing Trump's last four years, which were also largely done by executive fiat. The orders reversed the military transgender ban, abortion bans, migrant family separation, and so much more.
* Congress is gearing up for Trump's historic second impeachment trial while also dealing with a Marjorie Taylor Greene problem.
* Did you think we weren't going to cover the crazy Gamestop Reddit story? Hedge funds are wiping their tears with their billions after Reddit day traders tried saving a beloved video game retailer from opportunistic investors.

We are blazing past January on this 20TH episode of THE 25TH HOUR, helping you remember what happened in the news beyond the 24/7 news cycle!
De Blasio and Cuomo continue to haphazardly administer vaccines that are dwindling in supply. Cuomo might feel better now that Biden is President but didn't preclude him from threatening to sue the feds and go for a vaccine deal himself! Biden's administration curtly told Cuomo to sit down, as President Biden worked to undo the more troubling aspects of what Trump had left him, along with leaving a 100 day review for last-minute regulations Trump tried to ram through (bye-bye to the travel ban, and hello to the Paris Accords and WHO membership, along with a mask mandate).

THE 25TH HOUR Episode 19: January 10-16, 2021
NY keeps stumbling out of the gate with its vaccine rollout as the City builds an ineffective website - but it's the thought that counts! - and de Blasio warns that the vaccine supply will run out in a couple of weeks. Cuomo delivers his four(!) State of the State addresses outlining his priorities to save the state through new initiatives such as mobile sports betting and marijuana legalization, as well as new development projects and medical investments. Trump wants no part of this whole thing anymore, and despite saying his words inciting an insurrection were "perfect," he plans to fly back to his Florida resort the morning of Biden's inauguration. Congress is going to have to figure out how to multitask after a long time of not doing much of anything, juggling Biden's attempts to "rescue" the country while convicting a President already out of office. The Supreme Court told Texas Dems "no" to universal mail-in balloting and said "yes" to more executions. This has been the week of January 10-16, 2021.
Don't miss out on our interview next week with City & State Senior Reporter Jeff Coltin, discussing the upcoming mayoral race that just got shaken up by the entry of Andrew Yang! Thursday, 1/21, at 12PM wherever you get your podcasts.

Welcome to the New Year and things are still just as bad, if not worse, as they were before!
THE 25TH HOUR reviews the first full week of 2021, examining the drowsy rollout of the vaccine effort in New York, as Cuomo and de Blasio fight their squabbles in dueling press conferences. Trump incited an insurrection into the US Capitol to stop Congress' certification of Joe Biden's Electoral College victory, breaching the Capitol building since the first time by the British in 1812. Truly historic. Congress subsequently certified Biden's win anyway and are now exploring a second impeachment against the President.

THE 25TH HOUR reviews the week of November 29 to December 5, 2020 in its 15th episode. Mayor De Blasio is reopening elementary schools on December 7th, but middle and high school students have to still learn remotely. The City and State are getting ready for Pfizer and Moderna's vaccine distributions, making sure New Yorkers are well situated ahead of any emergency authorization from the FDA. None of us can really tell what President Trump is up to other than still lying and falsely claiming he won the Presidential election while Biden and Harris prepare for Inauguration Day.
