  • Nadine Strossen on First Amendment Rights in the Pandemic Era

In this special episode, The 25th Hour's host Dennis Futoryan interviews the show's FIRST guest, Nadine Strossen! Nadine was the former head of the ACLU from 1991-2008 and is a Professor Emerita at New York Law School. She is the author of the book, HATE: Why We Should Resist It With Free Speech, Not Censorship, which is in stores now! Nadine has authored other countless works pertaining to the scholarship of the First Amendment, and how people can freely exercise their right to free speech in America.

Nadine Strossen talked to The 25th Hour about what it means to be able to still exercise your First Amendment rights in an era where pandemic restrictions limit people's ability to exercise their religion in their houses of worship, go out to eat, or be able to assemble with a certain number of people inside their homes, but still maintain the right to protest against police injustice. Nadine also discussed how we can effectively practice counterspeech, and what social media has done to our discourse, and who was the most challenging person she tried to debate.

  • Episode 13: November 15-21, 2020

For this week's review of November 15-21, 2020, THE 25TH HOUR brings you up to speed on what's happening with NYC school and business closures, Cuomo's continued COVID-fame tour, and Trump still being in hiding after losing the Presidential election to Biden.

With infection rates continuing to rise in NYC, de Blasio made a seemingly last-second decision to close city schools before closing businesses, leaving parents, kids, and teachers holding the proverbial bag, but the Mayor promised that businesses were next to be on the chopping block by December 1st. Cuomo promised to sue the Trump administration if a vaccine isn't equitably distributed to New Yorkers, and is also set to receive an International Emmy for his daily COVID press briefings. Biden is performing underground guerilla transition work while Trump's administration refuses to accept reality and ascertain Biden as the victor of the election. It's been a while since we saw Trump out and about, but he has been working tirelessly in the background to undermine state election certifications.

A reminder that TODAY at 5PM, THE 25TH HOUR is posting its interview with former ACLU President and Professor Emerita of NYLS, Nadine Strossen! Don't miss your chance to listen about how your First Amendment rights fare in the Pandemic Era.

  • Episode 12: November 8-14, 2020

EPISODE 12 of THE 25TH HOUR recaps the news of November 8-14, 2020, with Governor Cuomo ordering new curfews and limits on private gatherings. Mayor de Blasio is getting parents and school administrators for a possible school-wide shutdown on Monday the 16th. Trump STILL hasn't conceded, which may not be a surprise, but it looks like he's getting used to the reality of not having a second term anymore. Biden is cool as a cucumber with his makeshift transition operation, responding to questions of Republican noncooperation with, "Yes, they will."

NEXT WEEK: Tune into THE 25TH HOUR's first guest interview with Former President of the ACLU and New York Law School Professor Emerita NADINE STROSSEN!

  • Episode 11: November 1-8, 2020

Election WEEK is OVER! On the 11th episode of THE 25TH  HOUR, review how Election Day went down, as the nail-biting race went into overtime. Voters were undoubtedly checking their devices frequently as they anxiously awaited results. Mail-in ballot counts from six battleground states eventually gave way to a clear Biden lead, leading to Joe Biden becoming the 46th President of the United States and Kamala Harris breaking numerous barriers to become the first black Asian female VP. Demonstrations gave way to celebrations in NYC, de Blasio had to defend aggressive cops once again, and Cuomo REALLY wants you to know he's here to stay and won't abandon us for a Biden Cabinet position.

  • Episode 10: October 25-31, 2020

In our final episode before Election Day, THE 25TH HOUR explores how New York City is tolerating rising coronavirus numbers while witnessing long lines in early polling places. Cuomo is swatting away requests to see data on nursing home deaths and is waiting patiently for after the Election to decide what to do about the State's finances. Trump and Biden are blitzing swing states on the eve of the Election, doing everything they can to rack up as much votes before the clock runs out.

  • Episode 9: October 18-24, 2020

The ninth episode of THE 25TH HOUR explores whether New York City is seeing any improvements in COVID numbers or are we just in a lull before the third wave? De Blasio issues an apology to the Orthodox Jewish community and puts his agencies on notice not to discriminate! Cuomo continues his book tour, admonishing President Trump along the way. Meanwhile, Trump and Biden had their final debate together, and it was a boring affair (as it should be?) - allowing the two contenders to discuss real policy in between insults.

  • Episode 8: October 11-17, 2020

THE 25TH HOUR reviews the week of October 11-17, 2020 in news and politics, covering NYC to DC. Cuomo and De Blasio continue to battle with increasing coronavirus numbers in the State and City, respectively, and while the temperature between the two leaders has gone down somewhat, they both face challenges. The Governor had to justify the release of his new book and de Blasio is trying to right the ship with parents and business leaders confused about closures in their zip codes. Meanwhile, President Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden had separate town halls after the 2nd debate was cancelled, with the differences between the two men on stark display - the thing is, at this point, millions of people have already voted and the town halls would not move the needle either which way. The Barrett hearings concluded this week, with a scheduled vote for the hearing to come out of committee set for October 22nd, the date of the third Presidential debate. The next Supreme Court session has begun, with the stakes for our country feeling like they have never been higher.
