Today we dive into the imperfections that we believe everyone is paying close attention to, when really, nobody cares but us. Have you ever come across this riddle? If not, drop me a DM and let me know your response (no cheating!):
"It's 7:00 am. You are asleep and there is a sudden knock on the door. Behind the door are your parents, who came to have breakfast. In your fridge: bread, milk (pasteurized!), juice, and a jar of jam. To answer, what will you open first?"
I posted this riddle on Instagram as a challenge. When my friend got the answer wrong, he was prompted to uphold his end of the challenge and allow me to choose a photo for him to post. I was surprised when he pointed out something in the photo that I never even took note of.
This really stood out to me. I found that I went to my own photos to pick apart all of the pieces about myself that I didn't like. The gift of watching my own reaction based on that of my friend's self-perception of his picture game me a new understanding of how insecurity works.
When it comes down to the brass tax of things, nobody really cares about the small details that you see as imperfections. That internal misalignment that you may feel at times when you believe that others are looking at your imperfections really don't exist anywhere else except for internally.
Most people do not see that internal battle. By allowing yourself to let go of that internal battle, you're actually winning the battle in the first place.
