The obvious benefits on the field, court, or pitch are that your team will be better as a result of having a GOAT on your team as well as players picking up the habits that make these guys so great. The intangible benefits are harder to measure and it's something we discuss in depth on this bite-sized episode of the podcast.

On 40/40 Shorts, we dive in to the draft day trade between the Warriors and Raptors that involved UNC teammates Vince Carter and Antawn Jamison. In this what-if scenario, we imagine a world where the Warriors kept Vince Carter and built their team around him for the next decade.

Carter was one of the best and most exciting players of the early 2000's and spent two decades in the NBA with several teams but his peak came with the Raptors and the New Jersey Nets where he made an NBA Finals appearance and earned plenty of accolades. He was also instrumental in the growth of basketball in Canada and his pop culture impact was immeasurable because of high flying dunks and acrobatics and we wonder what could've been if he did all of this in a Warriors jersey.

On this episode of 40/40 Shorts, we discuss what might have been if Gilbert Arenas stayed with the Golden State Warriors after becoming a free agent. After two seasons with the Warriors, Arenas became a restricted free agent and signed a six-year, $60 million contract with the Wizards that the Warriors couldn't match because they were over the salary cap and because Arenas was a second-round pick.

If Arenas had been drafted in the first round, the salary cap had exceptions that would have allowed the Warriors to match the offer sheet and after this incident the "Gilbert Arenas Rule" was created to allow teams to re-sign restricted free agents who were not first-round picks. This was a watershed moment in NBA salary cap history and we wonder what the Warriors would have looked like had that rule been in place and if they were able to hold on to a homegrown star they drafted in the second round.
