On the latest episode of The 415ers, hosts Evan Giddings and Marc Grandi react to the San Francisco 49ers' 19-12 win over the Dallas Cowboys in the Divisional Round of the 2023 NFL Postseason, to advance to the team's third NFC Championship Game in four years.
(1:30) The 49ers defense was dominant against the Cowboys, intercepting Dak Prescott twice and allowing just 21 yards rushing in the second half. How key was Fred Warner, Jimmie Ward, and company? But offensively, San Francisco struggled both through the air and on the ground and as a result, Kyle Shanahan's play calling got relatively conservative. Should he have trusted Brock Purdy to throw the ball a bit more?
(18:40) Purdy wasn't great in his second postseason start, but he didn't turn the ball over and helped lead the team on a touchdown drive when they needed it the most. How would you evaluate his performance? With a defense like the 49ers', do they just need their quarterback to avoid the back-breaking mistake?
(30:15) With the win, Kyle Shanahan has now led San Francisco to at least the NFC title game three times in four seasons. Is it time to crown him as one of the best coaches in the NFL? Plus, a look ahead to next weekend's (Sunday, Jan. 19th at 12:00 p.m. PST) showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line. In which areas to the 49ers need to be better in the City of Brotherly Love or can they grind out another defensive slug fest? Also, the guys hand out game balls to close the episode.
