Hello, hello, and happy Wednesday!

We are back with another episode of The 5 O'Clock Book Club. (Forgive our unforeseen absence last week. We were dealing with a crazy emergency, but we are back and better than ever!) This week we read the second and final book in the Letters of Enchantment duology, Ruthless Vows by Rebecca Ross. Divine Rivals (#1) was an incredibly tough act to follow, but Ruthless Vows held its own and was ultimately a very solid sequel.

This book continues and finishes the story of Iris and Roman, two former rivals turned lovers, and Enva and Dacre two former lovers turned rivals. Brainwashed Roman has fallen into Dacre's inner circle and Iris is trying to get back to him at all costs. In this sequel, expect more romance and even higher stakes. We hope you love this duology as much as we did!

Ross introduces a unique fantasy world where a fresh take on Greek-mythology-esque gods mixes with a retrofuturism vibe. Journalists Iris Winnow and Roman Kitt are the quintessential slow-burn "enemies"-to-lovers we are ALL looking for. Their romance is earnest, believable, and cute as heck!!! At its core, Divine Rivals is a book about the power of love and the power of words. We loved it and we hope you did too!

Hellloooooo listeners!

Happy New Year! We are back for 2025 and kicking off strong with a beautifully depressing read. Bewilderment by Richard Powers explores the potential effects of modern science and technology in a not-too-far-away United States. Astrobiologist Theo Byrne and his son Robin struggle through the horrifying realities of life on Earth and the death of their wife and mother. This book is equal parts terrifyingly poignant and astonishingly beautiful. It will leave you questioning your place in the cosmos and mourning - if not, appreciating - our beautiful Earth. Buckle up and check on yourself before and after reading this one, lol.

Hello, hello and happy holidays!

Welcome back to another episode of the 5 O'Clock Book Club. This week we read a book that really needs no introduction (though we did provide one), Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling. It's no wonder that this is book one of the best-selling series of all time. In this episode, we discuss J.K. Rowling's success and controversy as well as discuss some of our favorite moments from the book. We are excited to read the rest of the series and expect the books to diverge from the movies more and more. Overall, a very fun introduction to a new world!

We will not be posting an episode next week due to the holidays.

Hello and welcome to another episode of The 5 O'Clock Book Club!

This week we read the second in Rachel Gillig's The Shepherd Kind duology, Two Twisted Crowns. This book was a super solid follow-up to One Dark Window. While the first book in this duo followed the love story of Elspeth and Ravyn, they both take on more of a back-burner role in Two Twisted Crowns allowing us to get to know and love a new hero and heroine, Ione and Elm. This book was an adventure and not one we would like to go on irl.

Hellooooo and welcome back!

Buckle up and get ready for this, our first 2-hour episode. This extended yap sesh can be attributed to missing last week's episode (sorry), this book being a million pages, and a very literal interpretation of happy hour (tee hee). That being said, this week's book was Iron Flame, the second in Rebecca Yarros' The Empyrean series.

We were so excited to read this follow-up to Fourth Wing. Did it blow us away? No. Did it live up to Fourth Wing? Also no. Was it way too long? Yes. But we are too invested in this series to be too mad at it! It was fun and it propelled the story and we can't wait for book 3.
