Giving a speech is hard work. 

As long as you are going to go the effort  of understanding the importance of public speaking and giving a speech,  you sure want your audience to remember what you have told them. That’s  where things can become a bit of challenge for us as speakers. We’ll  often spend so much time trying to figure out what we want to say that  we don’t spend enough time thinking about how to get what we are saying to “stick”. 

That’s why we need some suggestions on how to make sure that our message is going to have an impact on our audience.

The next time that you are asked to make a presentation, how it goes may be based more on how well you prepared than how good of a job you did making the presentation. 

What this means  for you is that you are going to have to take the time to use the  importance of public speaking to master the steps that a speaker has to  go through in order to deliver an effective presentation. The good news  is that none of these are hard to do. 

You just need to be able to  remember the steps that you need to take.

So we can all speak. 

However, how many of us can speak fast? I mean  really fast? We all understand that when we are asked to give a speech,  we are generally given an amount of time that we can use to deliver our  speech. All too often, things change – the event started late, someone  ran over, etc. When we get ready to take the stage, despite the  importance of public speaking,  we’re told that we have less time than we were originally promised. The can cause problems for lots of speakers. 

However, what if there was a way that we could prepare for situations like this?

If you thought that creating and delivering a speech was tough, then you haven’t tried to deliver a speech to an international audience.  

It can be tough trying to use the importance of public speaking to  connect with people who think like you do, trying to connect with people  who may think differently is even harder to do. The good news is that this can be done.  

However, as a speaker you need to know what you are up against and then adjust your speaking style to make sure that you can connect with your audience.

Welcome to our modern world where everything seems to be changing all  the time! 

Back in the old days, we used to be able to show up at an  event that consisted of a room filled with an audience. We’d take the  stage, deliver a speech, interact with our audience, and then go home  and feel as though we’d been able to deliver on the importance of public  speaking. Well, things have changed. In our modern age there is a very good chance that the next speech that you are going to be asked to give will be a remote presentation that consists of you sitting in front of a computer or a video camera  and your audience sitting far, far away in front of their computers.  

What will you have to do to prepare for this new type of presentation?

As speakers we need to understand the importance of public speaking and that that we are living in a constantly changing world. 

What this means  is that how we used to give speeches is now changing and that means that  we need to learn how to change with the times. A good example of what is going on now is that more speakers are using iPads and tablets to make presentations to audiences. 

Are you going to be ready to do this?

Every speaker eventually reaches a point where they are the best that they can be. 

They’ve reached a point where their skills and their knowledge can no longer take them to the next level in speaking.  All too often speakers just stop here – they will never get any better.  However, it does not have to be this way. It is possible to keep moving  forward and to become a better speaker so that you can express the  importance of public speaking. The key is that you can’t do it by  yourself. What you are going to need is a mentor. 

Now all you have to do is to discover how you can get a mentor who is going to be willing to work with you.

So why do you give speeches? 

Is it to give you a chance to hear yourself  speak? I’m guessing the answer to that question is no. The reason that  most of us give speeches is because we want to use the importance of  public speaking to have an impact on our audience. What we really want to happen is we want to be memorable. We want our audience to hear what we have to tell them and then be able  to recall it long after we are done speaking. 

The challenge that this creates for us is that we now have to discover how to create speeches that will be memorable.

Let’s face it – giving a speech can be a nerve wracking experience.  

Sure, you’ve created a speech and hopefully you’ve taken the time to  practice it. However, when you are up there standing in front of a room  of people who are all staring at you and you are thinking about the  importance of public speaking, it can be a truly unsettling experience.  I’m sorry but there is nothing that I can tell you that will ever make  this experience go away. 

However, the good news is that there are a  number of tips that I can share with you that can help you to boost your  confidence so that the next time you get to give a speech, you can do  it with gusto.

Let’s all agree on one thing: giving a speech is not an easy thing to  do! 

There is the planning, the writing, the practice and then the  delivery. As long as we are going to be going to the effort to deliver a  speech, the one thing that we all want to achieve is to be remembered.  What we want to do is the share the importance of public speaking and  for our speech to be “sticky” so that our audience to be able to  remember what we told them days, and even weeks after our speech is  over. What this means is that we are going to have to craft our speech  in a way that will allow us to remain in our audience’s heads even after we are done talking.
