On todays show, we are going to talk about 'Future proofing architects'. A topic which has many facets, but for today, we are going to focus on two key areas. Education and mid-career professionals. These are the two critical points where architects tend to have pivoting moments that determine their thinking, design approach & career path.
To discuss this, we have a double-header! We are joined by Dr. Shaji Panicker. He is currently an associate professor at the school of design and architecture. of the Manipal University in Dubai. Over the past decade, Shaji has taught the students of architecture both in the UAE and in India. This has given him a unique perspective to the teaching methodologies put in place across both countries. He has taught students at both the under-graduate and graduate level. He has seen both the education of architects and the mindset of students, change, over his time as an educator.
In addition, we are also joined by another familiar face, or in our listeners case, a familiar voice! Rahul Sudheer joins us yet again to share his thoughts on the subject. When we last spoke, Rahul was with the prestigious developer, Emaar. Since then, Rahul has been part of many ground breaking projects and currently practices as an Architect with Broadway Malyan. Rahul has also spent a good amount of time in jury crits with students here in the UAE. That has undoubtedly given him an insight into the architectural education space of the country.
What makes today show interesting, is that Dr. Shaji Panicker, has taught Rahul Sudheer, during their time together at the RV college, in Bangalore, India. It is quite literally the student and professor, on todays episode!

This episode was quite a debate for us internally. We did not want to contribute to the mass-hysteria, but it seems the matter is now inevitable. This episode is a stripped back, raw, monologue on the current situation of our design ecosystem. Covid-19 has changed the way we as architects and designers operate. Love it, or hate it, this is our new reality. This episode aims to highlight a few steps that can be taken to better deal with these un-certain times. We talk about how this period of time, can actually be used to your advantage if you are an employee or an employer.
