The Love of God

James: The Tongue
James 3:1-12

Main idea: An uncontrolled tongue is harmful.

Are you mature enough to teach (3:1-2)?

Is your tongue controlled or uncontrolled (3:3-12)?
- A controlled tongue is useful (3:3-4). 
- An uncontrolled tongue is destructive (3:5-6). 
- The tongue is uncontrollable for any man (3:7-8). 
- Be single-minded in your worship and practice (3:9-12).

James: Works
James 2:1-26

Main idea: Good works are the evidence of Christian faith. 


Favoritism does not reflect the love of God (2:1-4).


Discrimination does not communicate the love of God (2:5-9).


Compassion displays the love of God (2:10-13).


Active faith results in good works (2:14-26).

Jonah 4:1-11

Main idea: Godly compassion is experienced and then given. 


Godly compassion is a result of obedience (4:1-3).
(Godly compassion is not required for obedience.) 


Godly compassion is granted even when we withhold it (4:4-7).


Godly compassion is beyond our comprehension (4:8-11).
