Louth Senator Alison Comyn has shut down online rumours in Drogheda about an influx of buildings to be used for International Protection Accommodation Service (IPAS).

The Drogheda-based Fianna Fáil representative said she reached out to the department for accurate information after hearing “negative gossip flooding social media”.

Police in Northern Ireland came under attack as violent disorder erupted for a second night in a row in Ballymena, Co Antrim.

Tara Mines workers are requesting an urgent meeting with management to address the company's failure to commence work on the Tara Deep project, which has the potential to maintain the facility’s operation for an additional 40 years.

The SIPTU trade union has warned that if management fails to honour its commitment to develop Tara Deep in last year's agreement on a return to work, they will refer the issue to the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC).

A shocking 202 greyhounds died while racing in Ireland last year.

The figures were disclosed by Senator Chris Andrews in the Seanad.

He is now demanding a full independent investigation into the €19 million of taxpayers’ money given to Greyhound Racing Ireland every year.

A convicted rapist who threatened and harassed three female Sunday World journalists has been jailed for 11 years.

Mark McAnaw, aged 53, refused to enter a bond before a sitting of Dublin Circuit Criminal Court which would have suspended the final 12 months of the 11-year sentence imposed for the harassment of Nicola Tallant, Amanda Brunker and Deirdre Reynolds.
