July 23, 2025Meath Mother and Baby Home Survivor Opens Up to LMFM After Court Hearing Ends – 23/07/2025The High Court has been told that two institutions - one in Meath and another in Dublin, were left out of the Mother and Baby Home Redress Scheme as they did not provide ante or post-natal care.Two survivors are bringing judicial review proceedings against the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability and Youth over the compensation scheme it approved last year, as the State says they don't meet the strict criteria set out in legislation.Mr Justice Alexander Owens heard the two institutions did not provide pregnancy related and infant care services.We were joined on The Agenda this morning by Chair of the Coalition of Mother and Baby Home Survivors Clodagh Malone, who told us more about this. July 22, 2025MEP Maria Walsh Secures Commitment from European Commission to Reinstate Key EU Equality Law – 22/07/2025After months of lobbying by MEP Maria Walsh, the European Commission has reversed its decision to remove a key EU equality law and will reinstate it as a 2025 policy priority. MEP Walsh is the lead negotiator for the EPP, the European Parliament’s largest political group, on the Horizontal Anti-Discrimination Directive. Following a decision by the European Commission to withdraw the Directive earlier this year, MEP Walsh led efforts to advocate for its reinstatement. President Ursula von der Leyen announced this week that the legislation has been added back to the Commission’s 2025 Work Programme Priorities.
