Today on The Agenda we spoke to Independent Councillor in Trim, Noel French, about his calls for adequate resources for after-hours mental health services in the emergency departments in Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

Noel says that there is an "urgent need" to improve the provision of acute mental health services at hospital emergency departments.

Today on The Agenda we spoke to Teresa Cassidy, who has been the school secretary at Gaelscoil na Rithe in Dunshaughlin for 27 years, yet she has no entitlement to a public service pension. 

Teresa spoke to us about how secretaries in schools throughout Meath could be taking to the picket lines this September if the row over access to public service pensions is not resolved.

This morning on The Agenda we spoke to Social Affairs Correspondent at the Irish Times, Kitty Holland, about the inquest which is currently taking place into the murder of teenager Daniel McAnaspie, who was murdered in 2010.

Daniels body was discovered in a drainage ditch close to Duleek (in Rathfeigh) in April 2010, 2 months after the teen was reported missing.

The inquest is taking place in Trim in County Meath, and Kitty told us about what has been happening so far in the inquest.

Today on The Agenda we heard about the tragic news of Garda Flatley, who was killed after he was struck by a motorcycle yesterday while carrying out a checkpoint in the Lanestown area of north county Dublin.

We spoke to O'Dwyers GAA Club in Balbriggan of which Garda Flatley was a member. They described him as an "absolute gentleman" who was always willing to help when he could.

We also spoke to Tara McManus from the GRA, about calls that are now in place for a "reset" on road safety, after the death of Garda Flatley.

Today on The Agenda we spoke to Niamh Kane (player for the Blackhall Gaels in Meath) about the teams decision to stand firm in the skort row.

The backlash by camogie players against the wearing of skorts spread to Co Meath after Thursday night's Adult Ladies Camogie Division 1 League clash between Killyon and Blackhall Gaels was abandoned after the visiting side refused to wear skorts and togged out in shorts.

We also spoke to Fianna Fail Councillor Caroline O'Reilly, who was commending the team for standing firm against this.

Today on The Agenda we spoke to Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee John Brady, who says that the Dáil‘s spending watchdog will scrutinise expenditure on accommodation for asylum seekers, the new national children’s hospital and on the failed IT system for the Arts Council.

Deputy Brady says that one of the most pressing issues he intends to prioritise on the committee is the “massive profiteering” in the provision of accommodation for those seeking asylum in Ireland.
